An amazing dining experience!
My old review got taken down for some reason. Maydan is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in DC, the food is simply NOT GOOD. Overhyped, lackluster, tasteless, and certainly not worthy of a Michelin star. Everything from the bland hummus, watery, overpowering saffron couscous and charred carrots, to the chewy, inedible ribeye, was such a huge dissatisfying and disappointing experience. Shocked by the great reviews, these people do not have a good palette at all. Expensive waste of a meal.

Enjoyed the Tawle experience, the food was good but nothing was incredible. The “terrace” seating is strange and in the alley which really didn’t have any atmosphere. Good dinner but not quite worth the price we paid.

The initial thought that comes to mind when I think of Maydan is just wow. You walk into this restaurant and immediately you're hit with the warmth of the live fire cooking pit that is smack dab in the center of the restaurant. Once you can wrap your head around that you sit down at your table and you see this menu that is very streamlined and just simple in its presentation.
I'll talk about the service, everyone that interacted with me during my dinner was knowledgeable about the menu. I felt like they really cared about my overall experience and also guided me and gave me advice along the way. The service here would be 10 Stars if they let me.
Finally, let's talk about the food. I got the Tawle menu and I will say that nothing in this four course meal disappointed. NOT A SINGLE THING! From someone who visits a lot of different restaurants and really critiques food not only on the merits of what you're eating but the engagement of the dish. Do you know how hard it is for me to say, I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like.
If you look at my pictures below you'll see that course one started with five different items that were spreads and pita, everything in course one was delicious. Exactly what I expected but executed to perfection.
The second course was chicken shish kabob with asparagus and a fattoush salad. Again, executed to perfection. The chicken was moist, tender and left me wanting more. The asparagus might have been some of the best asparagus I've had at any restaurant. And the fattoush salad was fresh, herbaceous, and a welcomed element to re-energize the palette before the main course.
For the main course or course 3. I got the ribeye. Seasoned to perfection, and the cook on the steak was textbook.
So at this point in the meal I was way too full to even eat my dessert. So I asked to have it packed to go to which they kindly did for me and I ate it at a later point. The dessert was delightful as well. Not too sweet not overly decadent and rich which made it very easy to eat and a very nice way to end your meal.
This restaurant honestly ranks in my top three as of today and that's saying a lot because it's hard for restaurants to really stick out in my brain considering I've gone to a lot. If I could give this restaurant a higher rating than five it would get it. If somebody asked me to drive 6 hours to DC from my house just to go back I would ask them why aren't we already in the car.
To the people at Maydan if you guys keep this up you'll have your second star in no time.

Was an amazing place. I went with the company of family and enjoyed their prefixed menu in which you get to choose 2 proteins. The resturant is a family style so you share everything! We had the Lamb and Ribeye, which were both amazing. The appetizers were all fresh, well prepared, and spiced amazingly. I had the old fashioned which was differant in all the best way possible. If you cen get a reservation I highly recommend the trip!

One of the best meals I've ever had! You must get the lamb and do the tasting menu. Lots of food to take home and the staff was wonderful.

Great place but making a simple reservation is complicated and they sit you outside where the chairs are uncomfortable but the good is amazing

In a nutshell: more hype than flavor, and way too pricey for what you get.
I’m honestly baffled by the rave reviews. My guess? Either a secret society of bots are writing them, or these folks haven’t tasted this style of cuisine before. Sure, the atmosphere was charming and the service was great, but my belly and wallet left the table feeling betrayed.
FYI: There’s a 20% service fee that’s NOT considered tip. The receipt’s language felt like a bully with a calculator. And before you know it, you’ve forked over an additional 40% of the final (taxed) total.
One of the best experiences I have ever had. This is now my favorite, but also most expensive restaurant in D.C. I will say, the downside was the vague 20% service charge. This is confusing to a costumer that is already paying a pretty penny for the food.

It’s hard to get a reservation so when I saw one available I jumped on it. It was raining and we had booked an outdoor table even though the outdoor space is covered we chose to switch to bar seating inside instead.
The ambiance is incredible. All the beautiful details combined with the open fire and large windows behind the bar really add to the feeling.
The bartender who helped us was great! She walked us through the menu and made some suggestions considering our dietary restrictions.
My spouse and I did the tasting menu and it was quite the experience! Every plate was incredible and paced nicely so you don’t feel you have to rush from dish to dish. You’ll be full and leave with enough left overs for lunch and dinner the next day. The halloumi, mushroom kebab, and muhammara were stand out favorites.
This place is a treasure I would recommend it to anyone and I would say it you’re going to go do the tasting menu it’s expensive but worth it.
My only complaint is they have a 20% service fee that does not count as a tip. I think if you’re going to add service fee to a check make it inclusive of gratuity as well.
