I love Ethiopian food. This cafe did not disappoint. I had Ethiopian breakfast for the first time — Ful (fava beans) , eggs, yogurt, jalapeños, tomatoes, onion, and fresh and sour gluten free injera.
Accept the coffee with peanut butter if offered. Or just ask for it! Nutty, buttery, sweet.
Lovely cafe to do some work in as well
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free injera.

What a wonderful discovery I made just walking down Kennedy Street. The shop I had intended to visit was unexpectedly closed. I happened to be hungry and in need of a bite when I looked up and saw the storefront of the Mita Cafe. Ethiopian-Japanese fusion? That’s different, I thought, lol.
Since I enjoy both Ethiopian and Japanese food, I figured it would be fun to take a chance. Great decision! When I entered the quaint space, I was greeted warmly by Michelle, whom I later found out was one of the owner/operators.
I perused the menu, which had a wide variety of intriguing choices. Many traditional Ethiopian and Japanese offerings. Naturally I made a bold choice and ordered a chicken wrap hahahaha. It may have been a safe choice, but it was an excellent choice!
Within a few minutes, Michelle freshly made and presented me with a hearty wrap and a side of chips that looked every bit as scrumptious as it tasted! Clearly fresh, quality ingredients, inside and out. I’d venture to say it was one of the best wraps I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten quite a few wraps!
I found myself enjoying the food and the atmosphere so much I didn’t want to leave, so I ordered a mocha, which, not surprisingly, was perfection as well!
As I sipped my delicious mocha I discovered that Michelle’s husband provided the Japanese cuisine on the menu and she offered me a two piece sample of his sushi that was every bit as delicious as the wrap and the mocha!
Needless to say, I will be a regular patron of this hidden gem on Kennedy Street. I know it won’t be hidden for long!

Today, I had the pleasure of dining at Mita Cafe DC, an Ethiopian/Japanese fusion and it was an unforgettable experience! The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal.
First, I had the smoked salmon panini, this came with a side of chips. The panini was grilled to perfection, it was filled with smoked salmon, spinach, pesto, tomatoes, it comes with onion as well but I requested no onions. The delicious food and exceptional service made each bite a comforting experience! Rating: 10/10
I also tried their rosemary tea, which was soothing and fragrant, providing a lovely complement to my meal. To end my meal I had another cup of tea, this was their Ethiopian tea, another delight to my taste buds. Rating: 10/10
Last, I had the canned tuna roll and smoked salmon with avocado roll, another hit! I was skeptical at first about canned tuna sushi; however, it was surprisingly tasty as well!
Overall, Mita exceeded my expectations with its diverse menu and exceptional quality. Whether you’re in the mood for sushi or a comforting sandwich, this place has something for everyone. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!

This place is amazing. The food was great - we got paninis and the Tokio Papa sushi. My friend really enjoyed her sautéed tofu panini (the best panini of her life). The owners are super friendly and gave us some tea that was so good - it was happiness in a cup. We had a great time. If I were a local, this would be one of my haunts.

Mita Café is a wonderful neighborhood spot! The environment it warm, and I've had the pleasure of befriending the owner and her family. After a long day of studying at the café I love to treat myself to a tuna panini and tea! Cannot recommend this place more!

Randomly walked to this local shop and bodega. It's not just a cafe but it has a cute store with Japanese and Ethiopian items. I was craving for some sushi and while their menu is currently limited what they did have was fresh. I felt like the price was spot on for how much food I got and the service was super friendly. It wasn't very busy and was close to closing but they have a great mix of Ethiopian, Japanese, and American food items to choose from.
I definitely recommend supporting this local business as they expand their kitchen and bodega section. Very good vibes and great cafe. Try their Ethiopian tea with peanut butter (they were super careful to ask about peanut allergies as well).
I'm a new big fan of this place. You'll miss out if you don't check it out!
Kid-friendliness: Definitely supportive of kids. I think they even have stuff to draw with and a kids menu. A father and daughter visited and it seemed like they were just at home.

I really enjoyed the food today. I had the Ethiopian food this time (it was delicious and authentic as someone who lived in Ethiopia for a very long time) but next time I will definitely try the sushi which was highly recommended. The service was very good too.
