The food was excellent though.

Don’t order from this place. I ordered a cake a week ago and was told to pick it up from the store at noon. I drove 30 minutes to the store only to be told they didn’t have the cake and that I could go back home and they would deliver it in 30 minutes. I get home and 2 hours later after telling me 3 times they were 10 minutes away they call and say oh we had an extra one in the freezer and are about to send it to you now. I missed a train home for the holidays because they lied and said they were going to deliver it and then after I leave the store and go home and wait for almost 3 hours they call back and say oh we forgot we had one in the freezer. I now have to pay for another train home for the holidays tomorrow because the rest of the ones today are sold out. Great job dc sweet potato cake. Thanks for nothing. I will be telling everyone I know and I know alot of ppl in dc to not support your business. The cakes are very good but this has been a nightmare od a day for me because yall screwed up.

Of course these ppl replied to my comments saying they were untruthful with no justification. I was promised a refund for my inconvenience and never received after several calls and emails so tell me how my comments were untruthful? I have no reason to lie but all good you lost my business as a result of your unprofessionalism and the business of others that I won’t be referring all over a $60 cake that you didn’t deliver. You don’t even know who I am to say my comments are untruthful because if you did you would have given me the refund that I was promised for a cake I paid for a week in advance and never received nor was I ever contacted. Do better with your clients that have supported you over the years

On Monday, I visited a cake shop in DC for lunch and encountered exceptional customer service from Jeremy at the counter. His kindness and welcoming demeanor were impressive, and the cake was outstanding, prompting me to place an order. Thank you, Jeremy, for your excellent service.

Popped in for some cupcakes (tried rum and butter pecan) and tea. Service was great and the owner was incredibly warm, and lovely despite it being busy right before the holidays. The cupcakes were delicious and moist! 😋

The cupcakes were delicious and very flavourful without being too sweet. Also MJ was such a sweet heart with excellent recommendations for first time crew to DC. Would highly recommend!

Last week, I embarked on a noble quest in a new city for the perfect sweet potato pie, and my first stop was DC Sweet Potato Cake. Walking in, I was greeted by April, a tall, beautiful Black woman who seemed to understand my sweet potato pie addiction—perhaps even share it. Encouraged by her stories of another pie-obsessed patron, I left with six cupcakes and a small pie. Back at my lodging, I gave it the smell test: promising. I took a bite, and boom—the hallelujah chorus erupted. I returned the next day. The rest, as they say, is history.

As you come through the doors of DC Sweet Potato Cake Bakery, you will immediately receive the warmest welcome of your life from April and MJ. When I tell you they made my day a million times better than it was when I walked in, that's all true! They are amazing ladies radiating their love for AMAZING food and their customers to all us lucky people that walk in!

The shop is adorable; an art gallery and a beautiful purple and pink floral theme cover the walls.

MJ gave me a sample of the cookie butter cupcake.. so moist and not too sweet!! Even the icing is crave-worthy. I'm looking forward to trying the chocolate sweet potato cake.. oh man, I just know it's gonna rock.

They also have a breakfast menu (SWEET POTATO HASH WHUT!!) and cakeshakes and April says she's working on roasting her own coffee! Can't WAIT to try out breakfast here! Also, the names of the menu items are hilarious!

This place has AMAZING sweet potato treats! The original sweet potato cake is very moist and has the right amount of sweet. The cream cheese frosting is great too. Definitely try the cupcakes and get AT LEAST a half dozen to try all of the flavors. Bourbon Sweet Potato cupcake is incredible!! I would also recommend the purple banana pudding if you love banana pudding! The best part is chatting with April, the owner. She is very nice and you can tell that she puts A LOT OF LOVE into her bakery. The space itself is filled with local artistry, showcased throughout and has seating to spend time and enjoy the experience. I will definitely be back for more! Thank you April for the experience! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Stopped in to try a treat and the chocolate sweet potato cupcake was just what I needed! MJ was amazing and made me feel right at home instantly. I’m new to the city and she was so warm and wonderful. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks MJ and April!
