We went to Opal for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant had a limited dinner menu which was fine. I t was posted on their website so we knew what to expect. Plenty of tempting choices: turkey, beef, fish and vegetarian. All bases covered. I ordered the roasted pumpkin soup. WOW!!! I twas one of the BEST SOUPS I have ever eaten: bold flavor with depth and character, creamy texture with toasted seeds sprinkled on top for a little crunch. I was so hopeful what would come next but, sadly, it was all a downhill journey. I ordered the shaved ham biscuits. They were overcooked, hard to chew and dry. The seared trout had a crispy skin and interesting cauliflower filling. But the fish was overcooked so it was dry. The dish did not come to the table hot. It arrived tepid. For dessert, I ordered the pumpkin tart. The crust was soggy and the filling had only a faded, dull pumpkin flavor. The white topping, however, was delicious. Service was great and atmosphere was festive. I think they precooked the dishes so they could heat them up quickly and serve them on short notice. Too bad. Maybe their regular food service would be closer to the roasted pumpkin soup that started my meal. I wish I had a photo of the pumpkin soup to post.

We love coming to Opal for the amazing food, libations and attentive staff. Recently I booked a company dinner with them and the food selections and service were impeccable, as always! Everyone enjoyed having the upstairs for our event and are looking forward to hosting another event with you soon!

Let me say the food was decent, I loved the fired bread and EVOO, but the management does NOT know how to read the room and the kitchen is SLOW!
Additionally, it's expensive! If you want to spend $80 for two people who each have, 1 main only, no starters (!), some bread and two cups of coffee. Oh and I had 3 club sodas that cost $12 (no refills)
But the worst part aside from the value is that the place was fairly empty and as an elementary school teacher and senior, it did not make me happy that they seated the four of us at a table very close to a group of four or five mothers with their young children (who btw who were all engaged on screens, ew!). After 30 minutes, and you could tell they had been there a while, Opal, finally fed the table with the mothers and children. But after one hour, WE still didn't have our food!
How is this okay!? How does this place get such good reviews!?
Okay, so when I told management privately on way to restroom, that we still didn't have our food after 1 hour, they came over to the table and made an issue about it in front of other diners instead of handling it in a way that would have made us feel good. Not cool!

When the food finally arrived, the omelette was rubbery, saved only by the yummy mushrooms and goat cheese. I asked for my side salad to indeed please served in a dish on the side and they brought the salad right beside my omelette. When I mentioned I asked for my side salad on a different plate/bowl, they did nothing.

Bottom line is most places would have figured out how to keep their customers happy. If you hear someone doesn’t want their salad next to their omelette, move it.
If you ARE going to come over to the table after hearing people have waited for an hour next to a large group with children, offer a dessert for the inconvenience.
I think when Opal figures that out, they'll have more customers.

First of all, I want to say that my waiter was great. He was very attentive and kind. Before my party got to the restaurant, it was relatively empty. I heard a person coughing and coughing and coughing in the back. When she finally came out, I realized it was a waitress. She proceeded to go into the kitchen, and the kitchen is open concept, so you can see right in. She continued to cough in the kitchen and then carried a plate of food out. Throughout our dining experience, I saw this waitress cough into her hands and then serve food to her customers. At one point, I watched her blow her nose into a cocktail napkin by the bar and then immediately pick up lemons put them in a drink, and then serve those drinks to customers. The manager finally came around to our table and I mentioned to her that she has an incredibly sick employee who is coughing into her hands and serving guests food and drinks. She said she would talk to her. Bottom line is this woman should have been sent home. But instead this waitress continued to work, and continue to cough into her hands. She then continued to look back at my table and stare at us with a mean look in her eyes. Not only did I feel extremely uncomfortable by this waitress’ behavior, the manager had a duty to send this very sick restaurant employee home, and did not. Although my experience with my waiter was good, and the food was decent, I won’t be back.

Edit: 3 days later I have the flu. At 9 months pregnant.

This place is great, it has a great atmosphere where noise is very moderate. The food is delicious and the service was very attentive!

I would say that this place is perfect for a date or a client dinner

First time here since it became Opal. The Simple Supper was an interesting twist on a menu.

Family style service of the listed starter options for the day, then each person gets their own entrée.

The food is good quality and quite plentiful with the starters, so if you choose this Simple Supper option, come hungry.

The cocktails are good, I enjoyed the Opal G&T, a flavorful and refreshing combination of cucumber gin and elder flower tonic (pictured).

The food was good, the scallops were well prepared (pictured). The staff helpful and friendly without being cloying or overly familiar.

I'd like to return and try more options on the menu.

The service was kind and attentive, but noticeably chaotic. Felt like the team and or kitchen wasn’t communicating well. The food was unfortunately bland and uninspired, both in flavor and presentation. The menu lacked imagination, and the wine didn’t impress either. Also worth noting: they seem to use a lot of corn byproducts in their dishes, which made ordering unnecessarily complicated for anyone with a corn allergy. Lovely staff, but the experience fell flat.

Finally had a chance to visit Opal! Everyone from the manager at the door to our server Naraya was awesome! I went with the Chicken Breast and it the meat itself came out nice and juicy and was well complimented with the sides! We also had their focaccia and the strawberry rhubarb dessert, both were amazing.
