This little gem is hiding in plain sight on Rhode Island Avenue. I have had the brunch and dinner and the food is delicious, in particular their shrimp and grits and red snapper. I enjoy eating on the rooftop, weather permitting. It's Nina's place and you won't be disappointed when you stop by.

The aesthetics felt all over the place. They were very hodgepodge and lacking a cohesive vibe. The space itself is quite small and extremely loud, which made it hard to enjoy the atmosphere. There are only about 8 bar stools, and the bartop sits unusually high at chest level, which isn't very comfortable for dining. There are 4 booths and 3 small tables. I didn't get a chance to see the rooftop, but it seemed to be hosting a large party of at least 20 people, which might be a better option if you're visiting with a group. One thing I did like was the games at every table and at the bar which added a fun touch and would make for a good hangout spot with friends. As for the food: service was slow, and when the dishes finally arrived, they were lukewarm. I came specifically for the whole fried snapper, which I ordered came with grits. The grits were surprisingly delicious creamy, flavorful, and honestly the highlight of the meal. The snapper, however, was dry and lacked seasoning, which was disappointing given that's what I went for. Overall, the food was nothing to write home about, mostly because it wasn't hot, and the noise level made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. It might be a fun stop for drinks and games, but not somewhere I'd go back for dinner. They also just need a bigger space!

My friend and I came to Provost randomly on a Saturday around midday. It has been on my list to try but, honestly, we were a bit skeptical initially because when we entered the restaurant we saw a group at the booth but we did not see any staff nor were we greeted upon coming in. We waited about 10-15 minutes before a lady came out from the back, and things changed for the better.
The lady was very friendly and began taking our order. We started with coffee, and my friend and I being coffee snobs, we were concerned about ordering lattes. However, there was not one thing that we received to eat or drink that was not absolutely delicious. The food especially far exceeded our expectations and we were blown away about how delicious everything was. We ended up having a great experience and we will definitely be back for dinner. We also ordered espresso martinis and they were great as well.
