I love the fact that it’s a Puerto Rican authentic restaurant in the dmv area! I always come and order different meals and they all taste good ! Except for I tried it on Uber eats and I have to say I wouldn’t recommend to Uber eats there food ! The potion is small and the rice was soggy maybe cause of the plastic container and heat and steam 😩. I couldn’t enjoy it at all ! Not to mention they don’t give silver wear or enough meat 🍖.
I ordered the stew chicken and I received two legs only and kids rice portion . I also ordered the og meal which is pernil and rice with pigeon peas and it was soggy

The food I just ordered, a pastellon for $18.00 was not good. It was not only 4 by 4 inches but it was boiled sweet plantains with one layer of un seasoned ground beef it tasted like and topped with three slices of fried platains and a 1/4 cup of unseasoned white rice. I do not recommend the pastellon

We have been here several times because we love it! The food is amazing and very authentic (delish Puerto Rican food), the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is very nice and cozy. The cocktails are great as well. Keep in mind that you need to make a reservation online but the last time we went wasn't planned, and because it was kind of early, they were very accommodating and got us a table promptly without having reserved one (take note that this is not the norm, we were just lucky because they are usually pretty packed!). We are from Puerto Rico, and we can definitely say that their culinary offerings are the best Puerto Rican ones of the area.

Lovely, cozy little spot for outstanding Puerto Rican food! This cute, hole-in-the-wall spot is located on the second floor of a long row of townhomes-turned-businesses in Shaw. My friend and I snagged a spot in the window bay, and it was so nice to be able to look out over the street as we ate and chatted.

For our appetizer, we split the grilled shrimp with smashed plantains, which was outstanding. The shrimp were tender and juicy, and the garlic sauce was super flavorful. You can never go wrong with a good smashed plantain, and Qui Qui's were no different -- they were slightly chewy and very lightly sweet, with a lovely crunch on the outside.

My main was quite similar; I ordered the shrimp mofongo, which was just another amazing iteration of shrimp with plantains. The shrimp were once again perfectly tender, with a slight snap as you bit into them. The shrimp, as well as the mashed plantains, did a great job soaking up all the flavor from the broth. They topped it off with a few pickled onions and herb oil, which was a great hit of freshness to brighten up the otherwise heavy dish.

We had a delicious meal and a nice time until the bill arrived. We were overcharged for alcohol. When we tried to talk with our server about it he became less than friendly and not very helpful. It kind of ruined the whole experience for our group of 4.

Unable to order from app. Food not authentic, americanized and prices are ridiculously high food not worth what you pay, long wait time and charged for service for a takeout order, also order incorrect. Disappointed. Ordered Chuleta Kan Kan, Bacalaitos y costillas guisadas.

Short version:

Rip-off Alert! While the food quality has improved, misleading pricing and lack of transparency left a bad taste. Overall, I ended up disappointed, not only with the restaurant, but with my fellow peeps. As Puertoricans, we need to be doing better than this. Will not be back.

Full version:

I recently visited Qui Qui for the second time, bringing my son along for his first visit. My first experience had left me less than impressed with the food quality, which is why I hadn't returned until now. However, I was initially pleasantly surprised this time — the food was better. The server was also friendly and attentive, which improved the overall initial experience.

Unfortunately, things took a sour turn when it came time to pay. The restaurant had a special family event that day, with live music after 2 pm. We arrived around 6p after the music had ended, to a relatively empty restaurant. Online, the ticket for the event, which was supposed to include food, and live music, was advertised at $50 per person. I was told by the waiter that I had two options: a $35 plate with arroz con gandules and pernil, and a $50 plate that included more things, such as morcilla, pasteles and aguacates. Based on what I was told by the waiter, I opted for the $50 plate to share with my son, but upon further inspection of the menu (QR code, phone based) after eventually getting the check, I realized that the $35 plate was also supposed to include morcilla, pastel, and aguacates. So, I ended up paying $15 more for the same plate based on lack of transparency and misleading pricing (as if $35 for arroz con gandules, pernil, 1 oz pasteles and 2 oz morcillas, before 20% tips, is not steep enough already).

Then, the drinks were another surprise. The menu listed coquito as a "caneca" (flask) for $15, so when I was offered a glass of coquito instead, I assumed it would be a smaller serving and cost less. However, I was charged the full $15 per glass that I could've paid for a caneca (this is the equivalent of ordering a single glass of wine, and then getting charged for the entire bottle). The waiter "explained" she was only following what "she was told" to do.

In total, between the misleadingly overpriced food and drinks, I ended up overpaying about $30 on top of the already overpriced amount I should've paid instead, before tips. On top of that, the check includes a 20% gratuity due to new DC "laws", which adds to the bill. So to sum it all up, a serving of pernil, arroz con gandules, the tiniest pastel you'll ever see, a small serving of morcillas, aguacates and "amarillos", two glasses of coquito, one flan, and two cans of malta — the total was about $110. So you reach your own conclusions. Shoot, at this price point, I'd rather wait for cheap airline tickets, fly to Puerto Rico and go eat at Guavate instead.

And I do understand that this is not PR. I dine out in DC regularly, and I'm already used to the sticker shock. But lack of transparency and misleading pricing is UNACCEPTABLE wherever you go, regardless of price level. So I left the restaurant feeling cheated, irritated and disappointed.

I had an amazing experience at Qui Qui.

We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arriving. Our waiter was friendly and attentive.

The beef empanadas were crispy with a flavorful ground beef filling. The tostones with pernil were also super tasty, the pernil (pulled pork) was tender and also full of flavor. The mofongo is great, it wasn’t dry or rough, it was super garlicky and great with the pickled onions!

I plan on going back to try more of the menu items!

If you're looking for an authentic taste of Puerto Rico, Qui Qui is a must-visit! The food is absolutely amazing—every dish bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. From savory appetizers to satisfying mains, each bite reflects the vibrant, rich culinary traditions of Puerto Rico. The sangria was also a standout—refreshing, well-balanced, and a perfect complement to the meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family. I highly recommend Qui Qui to anyone craving delicious Puerto Rican cuisine. Can't wait to return!
