$22 for a veggie burger that was dried out and burnt, as was the bun. That doesn’t include the service charge, which isn’t trivial. The mac and cheese was virtually inedible, and the house salad was mediocre. The beer was good but also excessively expensive. A pretty thorough rip off. We have been to Red Bear a bunch of times, but it really seems to be going downhill. I don’t know if we will be back.

Stopped in recently and had an unexpectedly negative experience with a staff member. Their demeanor toward customers came off as rude and unwelcoming, which really affected the visit. Others in my group noticed the same thing. With plenty of other breweries around that offer friendlier service, I’m not likely to return.

To start with the reason they got three stars, this place had genuinely really good beer. I did two flights, and I liked everything I tried.
However, I had two pretty big problems.
First, this is on the pricier side (my bill came out to $49 for two five-beer flights, this does include a service fee but still pretty steep.) I didn’t really mind this too much because like I said, the beer was good, but I’ve had a lot of good beer at lower price points.
Second, and the real knock that inspired me to write a review, was the straight up hostile attitude from my second bartender (first one was great and poured me a lovely flight of his favorites). When I asked him to pour me some of his recommendations for my second flight, he refused and was really rather rude in doing so - not an experience I’ve ever had at a brewery when asking a bartender to pour me their favorites to try on a flight. The bar was pretty empty at the time too, so this wasn’t a matter of me asking for a flight at a busy time, although either way I wouldn’t have expected that response regardless. It left a pretty poor taste and made me want to leave quickly, which was again a shame as I was enjoying the beer and atmosphere.

THE WORST SERVICE EVER! we sat at the bar for one drink and food, and it was not super busy. The bartenders were so rude and judgemental toward everyone, especially if they didn’t know what they wanted right away or asked for something not available. We were not checked on ONCE at all. The male bartender was very rude to a female customer when she asked to put a game on multiple tvs and replied “one tv is not enough for you” and scoffed at her. He then proceeded to meet her requests and order with disgust. We closed our tab and got the heck out of there. Will never be returning.

Not sure why this place isn’t 5 stars. Stopped here after a class at REI and the smash burger and beer was so quick fresh and delish. Would come here regularly if I lived in the area.

Great brewery! Great chicken wings and chicken tenders! Plenty of take out beer as well. We try to come here a couple times a year even if we love 45-60 minutes away.

Great bar food. Excellent vibe! Come in once a year with a group from out of town and Red Bear is a tradition!! We call ourselves the DC Dirt Gang in honor of that fine beer!
Walked in with a plastic cup of water and was told “no outside containers allowed” super rudely and that’s all. I would understand more had it been anything other than water. I immediately apologized and went outside with my water but nothing else came of that. I was looking forward to purchasing some beer and food here because I’ve heard good things but now I don’t want to after that interaction. Not welcoming at all. I was having such a great night until this interaction :(
