I love this place. At first it was a little weird since the host made us wait to sit at the bar in the same 2 available seats I had scoped from the alley. But we won't let that awkward encounter take anything away from the delicious food and drinks. Gar was our bartender and he is phenomenal. I ordered the cevichelada and that did not disappoint. It's all about presentation and he nailed it! I tried a mexican spirit similar to mezcal, delicious and for my last cocktail, I asked him to make something up for me using said spirit, Gar nailed it 1000x over. I highly recommend. He's an amazing bartender and shout out to the kitchen because the food is great here!

Having seen favorable reviews from other Texans, I was very excited to try the restaurant since it’s hard to find Tex-Mex this far north. However, the food was highly disappointing, the queso was slightly sweet and kind of thick, it was really missing the savory and acidic flavors that Texas queso is known for. The birria tacos and chicken fajitas we ordered were each totally lacking in flavor. As we kept going through the meal, the one word that constantly stuck out to us was “Bland”. The margaritas weren’t bad but they also tasted like they used margarita mix (though I’m not positive about this, but I always prefer Cointreau and fresh lime juice). The staff and ambiance were great and we had no complaints on that front. The restaurant was also fairly pricey, at least for the quality. Unfortunately, as a lifelong Texas resident, I would not recommend this restaurant, at least if you’re looking for quality Tex-Mex. I don’t think it’s impossible to find good Tex-Mex in the Northeast, but I don’t think it’ll be found here.

The service to delivery drivers is terrible; I'd even say the manager is a bit aggressive.

The restaurant is in on a block sandwiched between row houses. The atmosphere is cozy and there’s a lot of excellent lighting. I am vegan, they accommodated me so well, and they had a great tofu and mushroom taco option!! I can’t wait to come back, and the serving staff were wonderful.

Best breakfast tacos I’ve gotten in DC.
But one thing I find weird is the insistence on scanning the QR code and having to pay that way too. I’m with the boomers on this one but I don’t want to have to scan anything to order food. Even as something as a coffee, I have scan and pay rather than just ask the bartender.

One of the best food I have ever had! Great guacamole and even tastier tacos, especially beef and chicken. Highly recommend. LOVED THE SPICY MARGARITAS!

We have been to Republic Cantina many times. Good Tex-Mex in DC is slim pickings, but Republic makes it their speciality. Their brisket is amazing. It made my Tex-Mex Monte Cristo a delicious choice for brunch, paired nicely with freshly-made black iced tea served with a side of lime. I have been there for dinner as well. The service is average. There is a dining room but the sidewalk patio is nice, although the plants need some care.

I'm no Texan, but as a certified Jersey girl I know quality when I see it. Republic Cantina is a 5/5 across the board and happens to be a fabulous cafe by day -- reliable wifi, strong coffee, and bangin' breakfast tacos.

Everything came out hot and nicely presented. The menu has a lot of variety, and the flavors didn’t disappoint. A little busy during peak hours, but worth the wait!
Got delivery. Poblano Chicken Poblano Chicken Enchiladas are basically cheese enchiladas. A few shreds of chicken in 2 of 3. They are excellent cheese enchiladas, but at a $24 price point that's just wrong. This isn't the Republic Cantina of previous years... they're just maximizing their return.
