We loved it here! It was just a really great experience and you can tell it's very intentional. The seating is family style so you are probably going to sit with some strangers and make friends, but I think that's the whole point. Don't forget to step out and go to the historical exhibit right outside. It's powerful and it ties the entire experience together.

Had the fried chicken, greens, mac n cheese, sweet cornbread, and walnut marble pound cake. Everything was on point. Great finish to an amazing visit to the African American Museum.

The food tasted very bland, was not cooked with love nor served hot and was very overpriced. My family and I went on a Saturday at 1pm, and had to stand in line outside the doors until 1:30. Once we made it inside, there was another 10 minute wait and we were met with a few unpleasant attitudes. The aesthetics and the artwork inside the cafe was very appealing and appreciated.

My wife and I decided to eat here for lunch while visiting the museum. We had heard the food was good. Well, we thought the food was average at best. The selection was big but I wanted fried chicken white meat. They didn’t have any, just dark meat. So I got baked chicken white meat. The prices were outrageous. Both of us had chicken and one side item and one drink. We did have a dessert, molten lava cake which was dry. $66! That is crazy.

This place has the best fried chicken on the planet. It has the best fried chicken on God’s blue earth. It is so good I can’t explain it fully in words.

Not much around the African American History Museum, and this is the only place in the museum to grab a bite. You'll find a long line at peak times, and when you get inside to join another line, you'll likely be hungry. The food is just fine. I went to the comfort food section -- fried chicken, greens, sweet potato, mac and cheese. Everything was fine (although you could fine better fried chicken at any place in the south), and it's priced as you'd expect in a museum cafeteria. There are communal tables when you pass through the cashier, and you'll bus your own tray. Yea, you'll eat well and walk out lighter in the wallet.

Located within the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Sweet Home Café is more than just a museum eatery—it’s a culinary experience. The fried chicken was crispy and flavorful, while the collard greens and mac and cheese were comforting and well-seasoned. Each dish told a story of Southern hospitality and tradition.

This Cafe is located in the lower level of the African-American History Museum. I ventured here in the interest of time because I really wanted to explore this Cafe before the museum closed, as did a lot of other patrons. The line was long but it moved along. They have a plethora of food options here. I opted for the fried buttermilk chicken, mac and chese, potatoe salad, sweet potatoe and 3 layer chocolate cake. My total was $40. I consumed & thoroughly enjoyed my food. The portions were satisfactory and the food was pleasing to my palate. I received good customer service here, and I was treated with dignity, courtesy and respect. This Cafe can seat a little over 400 people. The cafe was clean and well maintained. If ever I am in this Museum again I would gladly patronize Sweet Home Cafe as I enjoyed their food and I have absolutely "NO" complaints at all.
And I forgot to mention that I thoroughly enjoyed the architecture and design throughout this Cafe. It was simply beautiful.

Nice eating area. Food looks amazing & taste mediocre. I noticed the restaurant is in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, a health care provider, hence this may be why there seems to be a lack of seasoning to me. I had a side combo plate. Upon entry, two of the employees were shouting to folks that they have multiple food stations....not in rude manner, but shouted at me the same message, though I was at the food station which I intended...the soul food sides...so I thought that was rude. They are expensive, so if you have children I would recommend eating before you enter the museum. Our bill was $49 for 3 sides, smoked chicken dinner, & a (water $4.50)

Decent variety of items, although pricey and some not too good. Need one price listing that covers all the different food stations for substitution of certain side items

We read mixed reviews of this museum cafe but decided to try it for ourselves and we were thrilled that we did. We haven't had BBQ this good since we left Brooklyn (RIP Fletcher's of South Slope). Ribs, pulled pork and ALL the sides were delicious. Both classics like collard greens and mac n' cheese along with fresh bites like fruit salad and broccoli salad as well as cornbread. Lovely sauces on the side too. It is a meal so be ready to be full - but it compliments any trip to NMAAHC. Don't miss it! Come hungry!

My family & I decided to spend the day at the museum as well as dine at this Cafe… I must admit the food was horrible as well as the incoherent servers. The fried chicken for the price should’ve been hot & fresh out of the grease. … it was cold & very dry, the collards were overly sweet & looked like they were as tired as the servers. I paid for 3 pieces of dried cornbread & I’m embarrassed to mentioned $ 7.95 for what they called bread pudding… which tasted like absolutely nothing !! Last but not least the brisket was either fatty or tough prehistoric pieces drenched in bbq sauce….the baked beans I can’t even explain just long water … idk but anyway … Shame on you Sour Home Cafe!!
