Pretty chill spot overall except the other day. I was having a sandwich outside when this crazy dame started throwing a tantrum and carryin' on. She was paying no attention to where she was going, started harassing an elderly person, and then got belligerent inside and started making threats. I was worried she and her deranged dog were going to attack someone. Just then, an employee named Gus stepped in and took charge of the situation and phoned up the boys in blue. She hightailed it when she heard the feds were on the way. Thankful someone who worked there took initiative and saved us all from that psycho and her violent dog.

I am very upset to learn that your employee Gus called the police on a customer following a racial profiling incident by another customer. Without making any effort to find out what happened or see if the target of racial profiling was OK, he took the word of a “regular” who falsely accused the customer of following her. I have been a customer in the past, but no longer until you make this right.

Yesterday, a server (Gus) called the police on me because "one of his regulars" asked him to. In the cafe. In front of customers. While I was sitting at a table. Not threatening. Not violent. Gus has a history of being cocky and entitled. He is ruining The Den. (The woman to whom he gave refuge had accosted me on the sidewalk earlier as I walked my dog, telling me "In America, we walk on the right." )

One of my favorite go to places. Love the ambience and that P+P is upstairs.Flat White is my usual coffee drink with tomato and mozzarella pesto sandwich or grilled cheese, but you have other great choices. Order and pickup at the counter from friendly, pleasant baristas. Bus your own table. Popular place that can get very crowded.

I was shocked at the great service and atmosphere. I'm used to a sort of soulless mechanical interaction with baristas, but Gus was engaging and fast with my order. The coffee is higher end and well prepared. It's a very cozy place to settle and read, or lurk and work on your script if you're into that sort of thing. I'll definitely return with company some time soon.Vegetarian options: You already know these fellas have some vegetarian options on deck. Lil cucumber sandwich and a quiche, y'a feel me? Delicious flavors and textures you dig? Very sumptuous symphony of fresh and crisp produce on tender egg and fluffy bread.

Solid place to work and study and the coffee is solid. I ordered food on two occasions and had burned bread crust with my turkey sandwich which was meh. The 12 dollar chicken salad was tasty but was shockingly stingy in its portions. It is like a teaspoon of chicken salad over a pinch of arugula and wouldn't feed an ant. I was hungrier after eating it than when I arrived. Staff is both chill and warm. It's a bit crowded, but it's a nice spot and conveniently located under the bookstore.

Many people include this coffeehouse as a highlight when reviewing the bookstore, and rightly so. The espresso was great for those in search of high-quality coffee and the atmosphere looked like a cozy place to relax, socialize, or do some work.Parking: Parking in the back is free and packed on a Saturday as expected especially as the bookstore runs many events.

Great, except their website says they're open til 9, but actually they closed at 6. I'd been hoping to enjoy tea and sandwich and cupcake (all very good, btw) while working on a project for a couple hours, but I got kicked out about 20 min after I arrived. Update the site, then all will be well. Other than that, great bookstore w/ not-so-secret cafe... I love this sort of place, and I'll be back. Earlier next time.

The Den used to be special but it is AWFUL now. Staff is sweet but they don’t even know how to make coffee. It’s like the den was turned over to a bunch of first graders.

Pleasant spot, with good though at times bland food. And food is better than the drinks most times I go there. Chai is weak, Arnold Palmer may as well be unsweetened iced tea, coffee is decent.Vegetarian options: Breakfasts egg & cheese melt, avocado toast, grilled cheeseKid-friendliness: High chairs, and located next to the children's bookstore sectionParking: Free parking on the back for patrons which is shared by several of the businesses, pay Street parking on the main avenue at front

This coffee show was my favorite study spot in college. The baristas are really nice and would refill my tea with hot water for free. They have great pastries, sandwiches, coffees, teas, and other drinks. They make great use of a small space and have lots of seating options. They even feature local artists. Delightful!Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian optionsKid-friendliness: Staff is nice and the shop is right next to the Politics and Pros kids book section.Parking: Parking is tight but they have a small parking lot behind the bookstore's front entrance. It's shared with the other businesses next to them.Dietary restrictions: Accommodating for gluten free and dairy free.

What makes a good coffeeshop? If we're speaking pure taste, then the little red fox next door might take it; if we're meaning realness, then maybe Italian Bar; there's commercial Uptown, drizzled Starbucks, and while I have yet to sample Bread Furst, only one place just gets it. In terms of pricing, freshness of the ingredients and genuineness of the sandwiches, availability of Wi-Fi and places to sit while working, the brightness of service, casualness and visibility of the menu, proximity to books, a bulletin and news, and a music selection that has included both Jacob Collier and Nujabes, the Den comes out on top for me.The fact that the coffee's good is just one of many good things. I can't believe I spent most of my 1L year while living just down the street, 2 minutes away on foot, while not simply abusing this venue on days I don't have class in the morning. I guess it's time to allocate a portion of my budget towards this one place that sits beneath the Politics and Prose.
