This location had the best chicken I've ever had from halal guys. Usually the chicken is dry as a desert, but this place had it actually juicy.

The worst meal I’ve had in a long time. I went at 6pm and got the beef gyro platter, in just one bite it was obvious that everything had been sitting out for a long time. Rice was completely dried out and hard, meat was dried out, masked with a ton of sauce and flavorless hummus. Absolutely disgusting and a disappointment to the name of the Halal Guys.

When did halal guys skimp out like chipotle? The quality of this food was known to be great. But this was disgusting. Quality was trash barely any gyro meat and worst of all there was hair in the food. Do better or maybe even go to Chicago get them trained. Terrible.
worst halal guys i’ve ever had, and i’ve had halal guys from different locations. there was hair in my food… don’t come here ever.
I visited The Halal Guys in Washington, D.C. expecting the same quality and flavor I’ve come to love in New York, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The food lacked the rich taste and signature spices of the New York location, and there was a noticeable difference in preparation and quality. Service was average, and the overall atmosphere didn’t match the vibe of the New York branch.
If you’re a fan of The Halal Guys in New York, don’t expect the same experience at the Washington location.

The sodas were diluted, there were no napkins, but the worst part was a lady who, when I asked for a napkin, told me to use my dress to clean myself up! So disrespectful! When I told her that I understood what she said, she started laughing. If you can, avoid it!!

I’m a Muslim come from China, and this is my second time coming here. Every time I transfer at Union Station, I stop by. I think the service and taste are both great. I don’t understand why the rating is so low. My only regret is that they don’t sell burgers.

Great food however the lady who was serving me. Did not ask if I wanted tomato’s or lettuce in my bowl. When I mentioned I just wanted meat and rice. She remarked “you’re wasting my food” very upsetting in a place I always look forward to.
I was there on 6/12/2025 and around 7pm

Got the small platter. It was the perfect size, and not a crazy price ($12).

Not What I Expected — A Letdown Compared to the Hype
I had high hopes for The Halal Guys — like many first-time visitors to the U.S., I’d seen countless YouTube videos praising their legendary white sauce, spiced rice, and savory meats. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of that well-marketed promise.
Watching the food being prepared in front of me, nothing about the presentation or process felt particularly appetizing. The setup lacked the visual appeal I’d come to associate with the brand — it was functional, but uninspiring.
As for the food itself: the rice was underwhelming, leaning closer to a short grain than the long, fragrant styles many of us are familiar with in the Middle East. It lacked both depth and seasoning. The meat — which should be the star — was bland and forgettable, and the much-celebrated white sauce? Not the game-changer I’d hoped for. It was creamy, yes, but nowhere near exceptional.
It’s possible that the original Halal Guys cart delivers a more authentic experience — I’d like to believe so. But based on this visit, the food felt overhyped and below average. If you’re coming in with expectations shaped by social media and global buzz, you may walk away as I did: disappointed.

The food was tasty as always. I got the platter with gyro meat. The red sauce is insanely spicy so I suggest getting it on the side and then sampling a tiny bit before adding it to your fully platter.
