Old world charm, warm ambiance. Attentive service . I had the NY strip steak, served a perfect medium rare. The seared tuna starter was also incredible, served rare. All in all a memorable evening.
We dined here for a special occasion. We were promptly met by the valet and greeted by a staff person who opened the door for us and then by another person who was manning the reservation stand and showed us to our table. There were any people yet in the dining room area where they led us so we were given our choice of table to sit at. Since this is primarily a steak house, they serve traditional fare (steaks, lobster, crab cakes) and sides that are meant to be shared. They have a pretty good wine list and cocktail menu. Given the increasing number of people who no longer (or just don't) drink, I was surprised that they have not updated their cocktail menu with non-alcoholic options. When I asked what non-alcoholic cocktails they had, our waiter just said that the bar would make something for me, rather than asking me what sort of mixture I'd like (e.g. something fruity or more acidic). This should have been my first tip-off of the sort presumptive service we would receive---that they know what was best for me. As a female diner, this style service felt outdated. It was a good thing we are familiar with wines, and can navigate wines pretty well. There are some very pricey bottles of wines on the menu (some were in the thousands of dollars) and it was unclear whether this restaurant had a wine sommelier to help diners, should they want to try a pricier bottle. I received some sweet pink concoction that I was told was made out of cranberry juice and something else). I had asked for a glass of malbec with dinner, which was served promptly, shortly after the cocktails were served, and at least 20 minutes before the meals came out. I was still enjoying my non-alcoholic cocktail, though, and was saving my wine to enjoy with my meal when they whisked the cocktail away---without first asking me whether I was finished with it---I had drank about half of it. I was talking to my husband, with my head turned away (we were sitting side by side) that it happened so quickly that I wasn't able to tell them I wasn't yet done with it yet. Thinking back the server probably decided to remove it when he saw that my husband had finished his drink. It felt as though they knew what was best for me since my husband finished his drink. Our dinners (filet mignon, NY strip) came out fine and were cooked to what we asked for. The sides were fine (sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes) and were hot as they should be. Towards dinner's end, things were kind of off/strange again. Rather than provide us with dessert menus, they presented us with one order of creme brulee, with florets of whipped cream (I am lactose intolerant) around the ramekin to share, saying it was on the house for our special occasion. I appreciate the gesture, but we were never given the either-or-option of ordering from their dessert menu (which we would happily pay for) or receive the complimentary creme brulee order. I would have preferred for us to pay for separate desserts off the dessert menu, but the dessert menus never materialized. I had been wanting to see how one of their desserts were like. The waiter stopped by once during dinner to check if things were OK but otherwise did not really check in once the entrees were finished.. We are used to also having the house or general manager swing by but none came by to see whether things were OK (such as the long wait for the corrected tea). Before the creme brulee made its surprise appearance, I had asked for herbal tea when they asked if we wanted coffee. They presumptuously came out with hot tea pot with an earl grey teabag already steeping in it. Again, this was done without first asking me what sort of herbal tea I wanted or simply just telling me ahead what teas they had. I hate the taste of earl grey tea, so I sent that back, asking for black tea, since it was obvious they did not have any non-caffeinated herbal tea. It just felt like the message they were sending was that they knew best for me, and I will enjoy what they served me, regardless of whether I requested or wa
Good prime rib. Quiet. Great piano music.

If you are looking for a classic, old style, steakhouse then The Prime Rib is the place for you. Food is excellent, meats are succulent, service is impeccable. Gentlemen are wearing a jacket, elegance is of essence here. Only low: pricing are really high. You can expect a $200 per person minimum.
Classic old-school steak house. Pricey but worth it. Wait staff are kind and attentive. The food and atmosphere are both amazing.

WORST meal I've had in a long time. Service was unacceptable. Food was inedible . let's start with cocktails- no grey goose, no Sancerre, no jalapeños for spicy margarita. Excuse was we are inbetween seasons!! September 18??? and what does that have to do with purchasing liquor!! Prime rib $150 and asked to have it cut in pieces and packed for my dogs. That bad!! I went to feed the dogs and it wasn't cut and we are in a hotel. I Could not eat it. Tough and no taste. Buzz's salad which used to be my favorite salad so bad. Hardly any dressing and no flavor. Not even cold!!! Artichokes side thrown on a plate- side dish and nothing special. Gave us check without asking us if we wanted desert or coffee. Our patience had worn thin!! Server needs to GO!! After 50 years I will never return!!!!

Un clásico que se niega a desaparecer. Desde luego que la atención sigue siendo muy buena pero a excepción del prime rib sus cortes no fueron especiales.
I have loved this restaurant for 40 years...the ambiance, the service all great. The food, less than great. The $75 price point for the NY Strip is way overpriced. The beef was tough and somewhat ver cooked...I ordered some it Black and Blue, it was medium rare. Salads were good, desserts were as well. Disappointing.

The Prime Rib is DC's best steak house with excellent service and tremendous ambiance. My filet and Ceaser salad were great. Added to the experience is a wonderful piano player, softly playing great melodies.
The prime rib - OUTSTANDING! Perfect flavor and tenderness.. and great service by Henry. Definitely top place to go in DC.
I went with a few friends and we all had the filet mignot with differing sides and a drink or two. We all really enjoyed the steak, I found the fries to be basically McDonald's fries, and the price is a little higher than I'd choose. For three people we paid $300 with tip, so $100 each, honestly the steak was great, but I don't think I'd choose to pay that much or suggest it for anyone for anything but a special event.

Excellent food; wonderful atmosphere - not cheap but you get what you pay for. Special mention to the ambience created by a magnificent cocktail pianist; I'm a professional musician and the art of cocktail piano playing is rarely heard these days. A great experience in a truly classic restaurant.
I still have trouble with how underwhelming my Wednesday dinner was at The Prime Rib. There was no Sancerre available to go along with oysters on the 1/2 shell. Sauvignon Blanc was a substitute. The expected large blue point oysters were not available but rather fairly good medium PEI oysters were. The waiter, Habib, spilled a glass of red Daou Paso Robles on the left pant leg and the left shoe. He spent 4-5 seconds "wiping" and I spent 4-5 minutes wiping. No offer of a compensation. I took my fine Italian dress trousers to a local cleaner the next morning. The food was good, but nothing remarkable at all. The prime rib was fine. But what was so special about it at $75.00? Sherry Roasted Mushrooms were rather ordinary. A shared basket of "Famous Potato Skins" were very dry. No amount of sauces could improve that mistake. Imagine paying $9.00 for a "Large Water"? What nerve!. Imagine paying $8.00 for a small sauce boat of bernaise and $8.00 for a small sauce boat of au poivre! When a formerly fine dining establishment nickels-and-dimes its patrons, then something is very seriously wrong with the management of The Prime Rib. The total bill plus tip and tax came up to $512.90!!!! Guess who feels like a fool?
