We had such a great time at this restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place to spend time with friends. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered several different dishes from the menu so we could share everything, and every single item was so tasty.

A special shoutout to our server, Awani who took amazing care of us. She was very attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. Her great service made the experience even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be coming back! 😊

What an absolute gem Vortex Lounge DC turned out to be. We kicked things off with the Vortex shrimp & Corn Bread appetizer oh boy, it was a crispy, flavorful explosion that set the perfect tone. For mains, we dove into the Roasted Chicken Gnocchi (pillowy perfection with that rich, comforting sauce), the Deep Fried Jerk Branzino (crunchy on the outside, tender and spicy within—a true Caribbean twist), and the Lamb Osso Buco (fall-off-the-bone tender, with depths of savory goodness that had us savoring every bite). Every dish was fantastic, bursting with fresh ingredients and creative flair. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a delightful night out.

I received the most special treatment at this place in celebration of my promotion. I felt extreme special based on the treatment of Kidist & BSaron. The food was delish. the drinks were delish. the vibesssss were vibing. would recommended and return. thank you for such a special night.

I believe this is a nice restaurant and lounge however the music is intensely loud for the size of the space upstairs. The staff seem to care and were about good service however the young lady acting as hostess on Sunday 03/01/2026 late afternoon left much to be desired. I want to enjoy Black American and African diaspora owned businesses but I except to be treated like a respectable patron same as I expect anywhere else. The hostess sets the tone and should be welcoming and give direction.

I came to Vortex Restaurant & Lounge last night for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner, and what should have been a special night turned into one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve ever had.

We had a reservation for a large party and paid a deposit in advance, which is completely fine. but if you’re going to require a deposit, the bare minimum expectation is decent service. That did not happen.

We were barely checked on the entire night. Three people at my table waited over an HOUR for their food. One plate finally arrived with completely raw lamb chops when they were ordered medium-well. The other two plates? Never showed up at all. By the time the rest of the table had finished eating, they were still sitting there with nothing. No apology, no urgency, nothing. Just a shot for the birthday man..

If we wanted to order entrées or even get another drink, we literally had to hunt down our server. That’s not an exaggeration. We were looking for staff around the restaurant just to spend more money.

The food that actually made it to the table was good.. I’ll give them that. But good food means absolutely nothing when half your party doesn’t receive theirs and the service is nonexistent.

The manager told me there were only two servers working. I’m sorry… but if you know you have a live DJ and it’s going to be busy, why would you staff the place like it’s a slow Monday afternoon? That’s poor planning, not an excuse. Especially when you’re collecting deposits for reservations, you clearly know how many people are coming.

This was supposed to be a birthday celebration, and instead my boyfriend didn’t even get to enjoy his night. That’s the part that’s truly disappointing.

Unless you’re perfectly fine with no service, missing meals, and chasing down staff just to be acknowledged, I’d skip this place. Or maybe sit at the bar and hope for the best.

We had a last minute group of 22 people that we needed a reservation for in 1 hour. There were accommodating for the entire group. Food was great. Service was amazing from the host, server, and the manager.
