Thursdays are the best nights to go! Affordable drinks, decent music (depending what DJ is there that night), and the environment is usually pretty good. The bar tenders UPSTAIRS are friendly and always have a smile on their face.

The Deer Park Tavern occupies a restored 19th‑century mansion next to the historic Deer Park Hotel. It’s a craft‑beer lover’s haven with a sophisticated yet cozy vibe. I visited on a winter evening: the fireplace crackled, and the dining rooms were dressed in hunter‑green tones, giving a warm and refined feeling. For starters, the fish and chips were well-executed—crispy batter, flaky fish, and perfectly salted fries. The shepherd’s pie offered hearty comfort in a rich, meaty base topped with creamy mashed potato. I also tried buffalo wings: spicy, tender, and served with celery and bleu cheese. The beer list is encyclopedic—100+ bottles and 24 taps from Delaware and nearby breweries. The staff offered a tasting flight to start, helping me select a rich amber and a crisp IPA. Cocktails and wine were also strong. The ambiance is upscale casual—great for date nights, gatherings, or history buffs in search of both ambiance and quality food. All in all, Deer Park serves elevated gastropub classics in a charming, historically rooted setting that makes Newark feel homey and refined at once.

Female bartender on 7-16 was extremely rude from the get go. Tried to deny service to the birthday girl because she can’t read a passport. Goes on to serve weak drinks and ignore the rest of our group for orders while serving others who walked up. Don’t know what her deal was.

Stopped here for a late lunch with my husband and daughter while traveling. I had the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. My daughter had a burger with French fries. And my husband had the smoked salmon BLT with tater tots. The turkey burger was average but the sweet potato fries were probably the best I ever had. My daughter's burger was very good but her fries were cold. My husband's sandwich was good but his tater tots had a very odd flavor. He sent the tater tots back thinking there was something wrong with them, but the fresh batch tasted strange also. The service and atmosphere was decent which increased the rating. The kitchen closes from 2p-3p so they can prepare for the transition from lunch to dinner.

Kyle was an awesome server last night! We had a huge party and he didn’t bat an eye. He was efficient and went with the flow the whole time.

Yes, this is a college bar, but the food is absolutely stellar! The service was quick and on point. You will have to listen to loud music no matter where you are in the bar. We had the potstickers, the Berry Salad, and the Braised short rib with garlic potatoes and asparagus. Prices are fair and park8ng is free. The best part? There was everyone from freshman students to elderly couples, and the staff took great care of everyone. We will definitely be coming back.

Deer park is awesome! The drinks are great and the food is delicious. If you haven’t had their nachos or hot fudge brownie sundae you are missing out! The staff is super nice. We often stop in for a happy hour and have a large table and they are very accommodating. Just be aware that during school season it is a very popular student hangout so come for lunch or happy hour if you don’t want the student scene. My favorite place in Newark!

I was here for lunch with my mother in law, and the crab corn chowder? I think is what I had. It was SO GOOD.
Prices are a little high, but man do they deliver with the portion size!

We had Bella as a server, and she was attentive and super sweet!

Will be back again. 😊
