Was visiting my old alma mater and was surprised to see that Klondike Kate's was still in business. I had gone many times during my college years in the 80s.
I ordered french onion soup and my husband got the lobster bisque. My soup, rather than coming in a crock, came in a very small bowl - almost a ramekin. The cheese was barely melted, and the soup was luke warm. My husband's soup was so salty he couldn't eat it.
So, we sent it back and got wings. Mu husband doesn't like typical hot sauce wings, so we got garlic parmesan. They came slathered in hot wing sauce and sprinkled with grated parm. They were dry as a bone to boot.
A total waste of $20.

Extremely disturbing experience. I went to this place last night with a friend. While we were already inside, we were approached by security and forced to leave without any explanation. The way we were treated was clearly discriminatory and racist. It’s unacceptable that this kind of behavior still happens in 2025. I felt deeply disrespected and humiliated. I will never return to this place and definitely do not recommend it to anyone

This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The food was terrible, completely tasteless, and the service was unbelievably slow. I will never go back. I strongly advise others to stay away. On top of that, the security staff were aggressive and disrespectful—completely unprofessional

Klondike Kate’s is a landmark eatery in Newark, known as much for its rich history as for its lively bar scene and extensive comfort food menu. Situated on Main Street, the building has a nostalgic charm with exposed brick walls, colorful lights, and a sprawling deck that's packed during warmer months. It's a popular hangout for college students, locals, and visitors alike. The menu is massive, with everything from wings and burgers to pasta, seafood, and salads. I ordered the honey BBQ chicken wrap with a side of seasoned waffle fries. The wrap was stuffed with tender chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a sweet-and-smoky sauce that tied it all together. The fries were crisp and flavorful, the kind you can’t stop picking at. My companion had the Kate’s Mac—a creamy mac and cheese loaded with bacon and jalapeños, topped with crispy breadcrumbs. It was decadent and absolutely hit the spot. Drink-wise, they offer a good mix of local beers, fruity cocktails, and seasonal specials. Service was friendly, and our food came out quickly, even though the place was nearly full. Prices are fair, and portions are large. While it leans casual and a bit rowdy during peak hours, Klondike Kate’s is full of energy, history, and hearty food—a must-visit if you're spending time on Main Street.

Had dinner here on a Saturday night during the summer with my husband and daughter. My husband had the chicken pesto sandwich. My daughter had a garden salad with grilled chicken, and I had the chicken & avocado caprese salad. The food was great. The service was prompt and friendly. We also had fried pickles as an appetizer. The restaurant was cute but the parking was terrible. Thankfully parking was free until August 10th so we didn't have to pay for that horrible spot.

Omg just came in because they had Beeey Cobbler on the menu… this was not beeey cobble at all . The cobbler portion was more like croutons. It tasted like rotten cheese. It was absolutely disgusting! See for yourself this is not Cobbler of any type.
