Passing through and WoW! This place really hit the spot for a healthy affordable meal. Got the special and one of the employees suggested putting some hot sauce on it and wow was he right!
Food tasted amazing and fresh and the chicken was incredible. Wonderful bowl spot and I highly recommend it!
Was really good about food allergies and looked into it for us!

I went as a first timer and there were so many great options to choose from.
Staff were very helpful and helped me choose a bowl that aligned with my food restrictions and preferences. It was fresh and delicious. I will definitely return soon.

Roots Natural Kitchen is a refreshing and health-focused option that doesn't sacrifice flavor for nutrition. The atmosphere is bright and clean, with minimalist decor and a focus on quick service. Their menu is centered around customizable grain bowls, featuring wholesome ingredients like quinoa, brown rice, roasted sweet potatoes, red cabbage slaw, chicken, tofu, and a variety of sauces. I ordered the Southern bowl and added roasted chicken and extra avocado. The textures were incredible—warm grains contrasted with crisp slaw and crunchy chickpeas, all brought together by a zesty cilantro-lime dressing. It was both filling and energizing. What sets Roots apart is the transparency of ingredients and the ability to build your own bowl without feeling overwhelmed. Everything feels fresh, seasonal, and thoughtfully sourced. They also offer vegan and gluten-free options, making it inclusive for various dietary needs. Service is fast, and staff are helpful when you have questions or want to substitute ingredients. Though the space is more functional than cozy, it suits the grab-and-go crowd, especially students from the nearby university. Prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes and quality. Overall, Roots is a go-to for anyone who wants a healthy, customizable, and satisfying meal on a busy day without falling into the fast-food trap.

Great food
Delicious! Good portions and ability to customize bowls.
Usually a big fan of Roots and the new Garu Bowl but just had a one off bad experience. The bowl was made with the wrong ingredients and the employee didn’t look like they knew how to make the bowl I asked for.
Otherwise a big fan 🤠

Roots is one of my go-to spots in Newark for a quick and satisfying meal. Their salads and bowls are crafted with freshness in mind, featuring a vibrant array of ingredients that are both well-seasoned and bursting with flavor. I find that the standout item on their menu is their adobo chicken; it's so delicious that it keeps me coming back time and again. The menu offers an impressive selection of options and sauces, making it easy to customize your meal to your taste.
For those who follow a plant-based diet, Roots is particularly accommodating with a wide range of meat alternatives, including their smoky BBQ tofu, which is a favorite among vegetarians. While they do have a selection of teas available, I find them to be on the sweeter side, which isn’t quite to my liking.
As for the atmosphere, the seating area is decent, but it does tend to get a bit noisy and warm because of the open kitchen. Therefore, I usually prefer to opt for takeout to enjoy my meal in a more comfortable setting. Overall, Roots provides a fantastic and flavorful dining experience that I highly recommend!

I bought the limited time item called The Garu. The rice mix with seasoning was flavorful but a bit mild for me. The BBQ chickens were too dry and hard

It wasn't busy this evening because most of the students were gone for the summer. The food was good, but I think my bowl was a little large for me, certainly not the staff's fault. Next time I'll watch myself. The photo with the lid off features barbequed tofu.

I LOVE Roots. I previously worked for the Delaware branch’s manager Rich at the College Park location. He is kind, compassionate, and cares lots about his staff and customers. All the food is great and prepared to the highest quality. I would recommend getting one of the preset menu bowls like the Pesto Caesar or the El Jefe. You really can’t go wrong with any of those. I especially love that Roots is allergy and dietary restriction friendly. Also, kids eat free! I would 100% recommend coming here.

I was not prepared for how good healthy can taste. Great seating area facing Main St, decent prices, great ingredients, friendly staff, fast yet somehow unhurried service.
