Café Voltaire has a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in. The lighting is soft, which gives the space a calm and relaxed feel, perfect for studying or spending time with friends. The music fits the mood well, adding character without being distracting. Their menu offers a thoughtful mix of savory and sweet items, and the crepes are especially worth trying whether you want something filling or something light and sweet. As a tea drinker, I really appreciate the variety of teas, which feels like a genuine part of the menu rather than an afterthought. The combination of good food, a strong tea selection, and a warm setting makes Café Voltaire a place I look forward to returning to often.

Food and coffee both were great, but a big shout out to the staff for being so incredibly nice to our kids, even on a busy Sunday morning. See you next time we’re in town!

The crepes were decent but nothing special. A small glass of orange juice was $5, which felt overpriced. I also had to wait over 15 minutes for my crepes, even though my girlfriend’s order came out right away, kinda long for a cafe. The server didn’t check in on us at all, seemed uninterested, and was on his phone most of the time. Overall, the experience was disappointing.

Awesome place. I haven't seen anything like it in Gainesville so far! The food is wonderful, and the coffee is to die for. And the atmosphere! It's really wonderful to have somewhere that feels so thoughtfully curated and attended to. The owners were there, with their children (I think?) and it just felt very homey and comfortable. I'll be back for sure!

I'm obsessed with Voltaire's mocha. The local milk option makes it ultra creamy, and the cinnamon spice gives a sophisticated edge. It's rich, but not overly so, and the sweetness complements the coffee flavor without masking it. This is a coffee to look forward to, a delight to enjoy at any time of day.

The apple compote crepe was exceptional. I knew it was being cooked when the delicious aroma of pan fried batter hit the air. The crepe was perfect—pliant, crispy, buttery—and filled with refreshingly sweet, tender apple goodness. It was served fresh off the pan and topped with Voltaire's homemade vanilla gelato—à la mode never tasted so good. It's big enough for two to share, as we did, but I had a hard time overcoming the greedy desire to hog the whole thing to myself. This is certainly the best crepe I've ever had. 10/10, no notes.

I'd also like to mention Voltaire's lovely atmosphere. The interior is painted in calming shades of green, with beautiful antique wood furniture throughout. Scattered around the room is a curated collection of locally made goods, art pieces and bric-à-brac. Overall, Voltaire has a refined vintage look that elevates the experience, whether you visit to study, enjoy a carefully crafted coffee, or share a moment with your significant other. It's easily my favorite cafe in Gainesville, and I'm very thankful for its place in our local coffee scene.

Trendy, “frenchy” cafe. Lots of room to sit. Mellow music playing in the background.

Great place to order a coffee and sit!

I ordered a sweet crepe (they have savory also). The slices of pear with walnuts and honey was great!

My friend ordered a drink to go and it was given in a glass cup. No problem! We asked if it could be transferred to a to-go cup. They complied but spilled some of the drink. Still not too big a deal. Then, when we got back to the seat, we realized that the new to go cup had two cracks in it, which led to spilling even more of the drink. At this point there was significantly less product in the cup, so I went to ask if the drink could be remade. They implied I was lying and acted very rude and condescending. Absolutely would not come back. The food and drinks are definitely not worth the horrible customer service.

EDIT 06/29/25: Drink sizes seem to have increased!!

The vibe is cozy and elegant with antique furniture, lots of natural wood and plants everywhere, kind of feels like sitting in someone's very cute living room. The coffee is great and the crepes are AMAZING. The A/C is good (it's relevant lol) and so is the music. Lots of outlets, some little outdoor tables too. I just wished they were open later (can't ever get here other than on the weekends as they close at 4) and that they had a larger drink size option.

I’m giving 5 stars, while we had to wait for our food almost 40minut the food was well prepared, delicious with good quality ingredients, for the future since you guys pretty much only serves crepes would be nice to have more crepes machine to expedite the process also I saw more that 2 tables just sitting there with a cup of coffee and a computer and customers waiting standing up, although love the fact that you guys do not rush ppl out but would be great to have a designated area with a bar type of sitting for those that like to stay after eating and use the computer
Will be back!! service was professional and attentive great attitude

Their crepe and coffee is good! The coffee tends to be acidic. Their vibe and music are my favorite here

Beautifully decorated café serving delicious savory and sweet crepes, gelato, and espresso-based drinks. I would gladly give five stars if the owners had invested in proper ventilation—the smoke from the crepes fills the space and stings the eyes. It’s genuinely uncomfortable and something that should be addressed.
