Not the Worst nor the Best!

To make a long story short, I’ve tried Sweet Mama’s twice the first meal was Smothered Turkey Wings (just the wing tip and flat) which is not a full wing, Mac and cheese and collards. Second time around I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, green beans, and collard greens. 

I found the taste of the turkey flat and meatloaf to be lacking in any type of distinctive flavor that would make me want either one of them again. The collard greens were consistently good. The green beans were good. Mac N cheese - meh! But what really was the deciding factor that I won’t be going back is the mashed potatoes were from a box. My husband’s yams were from a can. If I’m going to eat food that’s out of a can or a box, I can just make it at home.

I love supporting local businesses and want to see them succeed, but this place just doesn't do it for me. You know how you eat something and it’s like “damn that’s good!” That hasn’t been my experience.

Time and time again this place excels in delivering the best southern/soul food in Jacksonville. At an affordable price you can have a full belly which is essential in an expensive area. Thank you for the continuous excellence in food.

Let’s just say.. that my one year old did not drop any on the floor and asked for more!

Being caucasian and walking into a soul food restaurant can be somewhat intimidating but the staff made that all go away as soon as you walked in the door. So warm and welcoming.
I had the fried pork chop, greens and lima beans. All excellent and well seasoned. The pork chop was tender and juicy with the perfect coating that had a slight crunch. My partner had the Meatloaf over rice with gravy, greens and Mac and cheese. He said this was a winning combination and gobbled the whole thing down. Lauren ( the owner ) and staff are amazing. We will be back soon!

Always a great place to go heat Great food. Open kitchen so you can see your food being prepared. Fresh food.

We had the chance to go here last night and let me just say I don’t regret my decision at all. The food was great…. I had the meatloaf, my kids had sliders and chicken. And we also got the fish and shrimp. It was all good. For the kids sliders I really like that was a good portion size and my kids loved it. The meatloaf was good. I had been wanting some meatloaf for a couple days and this one didn’t disappoint. If we come to Jacksonville again. I’ll definitely be back.

Queens is in the building with this one . Amazing food excellent service just be patient she got you. This restaurant is a WOW 😳

Good. Idk what else to say. We went during the holiday and wanted soul food. We read the reviews and decided to come based off that. It smells like love and recipes in there! Lol! Friendly and courteous and the food is so good.

Sweet Mama's is an absolute treasure! The southern food is nothing short of amazing—packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Yum yum eat em up. Spectacular food just like momma used to make. 100 percent home made whole wings fried to perfection definitely my new lunch and dinner spot. If you are wondering yes it is well worth the drive and you can order ahead online. I can't say enough about Sweet Mama's go see for yourself.
