General Horseplay is a phenomenal bar. Bartender Eric waited on my wife and me. He was wonderful interpersonally, and he was a magician as a mixologist. I like to think of myself as educated when it comes to craft cocktails, yet he introduced me to the vieux carre, and it was delightful. I cannot recommend Eric and General Horseplay highly enough.

Went there last night to have a few cocktails.The selection of cocktails was really large, we only missed the classics (mojito, pinã colada, margaritas, something like that...)We finally found something and were very satisfied.Unfortunately the "live act" wasn't our cup of tea, you had the feeling that the loudness of his performance was trying to drown out the singing, which wasn't all that good.When the musician had drunk enough, it became too much for us and we left.The instruction manuals in the store were all very friendly!

The drinks, specific bartenders, and security at this place are amazing, however, there is one employee at this restaurant that ruined this entire place for us. There is one employee at this restaurant that has blonde hair and a cheetah print tattoo on her shoulder. My friend and I went in the bathroom and when we left after 3-5 minutes, she ripped the door out of our hands and told us to get out. We went back to the security to tell them that her reaction was inappropriate since we have worked in the service industry as well - She came at us behind the security, told us she told us that we couldn’t have more than 2 people in the bathroom (which she did not tell us that), and then proceeded to say to us “have a good night b****” as she clapped at us. It is extremely inappropriate to cuss at guests at a tourist restaurant but I encourage the managers/owners to watch the footage of this employee screaming at us from the entrance. I encourage management to reach out to us for any questions.

We had wonderful service with our bartenders and the security. Unfortunately toward the end our night, a blond employee with leopard tattoo on her right arm became incredibly confrontational with me due to going into their single-room bathroom together. She claimed she had told us not to go in together , when the interaction had never occurred (working for customer service , I can understand frustration with customers ignoring an employee’s request). When I attempted to address the situation , since I also work tourism/bartending, she yelled at me in front of her coworkers and dismissed the issue. If I were management , I would address how the situation was handled . Being in a HIGH tourist area - we get it that a busy night can be overwhelming - but that kind of traffic doesn’t constitute that type of interaction in any way. Regardless of any type of interaction, it should never constitute clapping and saying “have a good night b****” to a customer who was still voluntarily leaving after voicing a concern toward service. I encourage the management to review the situation to avoid any additional interactions similar to our experience . Extremely disappointed to the exit of our night with her , since the rest of the staff was so incredible

We would like to share this message for other international tourists in Key West. Our Saturday night experience last week at General Horseplay was deeply disappointing and unsettling. I was allowed entry using my foreign ID without any issues. However, the situation took an inexplicable turn when another member of our group, also with a foreign ID, was denied entry by a very disrespectful and aggressive bouncer. This inconsistency in policy enforcement not only felt like an arbitrary abuse of authority but also hinted at discriminatory practices.General Horseplay should align its policy with the welcoming and respectful practices evident in its neighboring bars (Our international IDs have been accepted literally everywhere in the US except here).PS. Telling people to get the **** out is not appropriate nor proportionate.

This is a warning to all wedding parties. Our wedding planner arranged our after party at this bar and when we showed up, the staff was super unprofessional. One of my bridesmaids isn’t an American resident and they wouldn’t let her in because she didn’t have an American ID. That’s a ridiculous policy given that Key West is a tourist destination for people from all over the world. However, even so, the policy is not why I’m giving this place one star. I’m giving this bar one star because the bouncer was excessively aggressive and rude when I was trying to turn our whole caravan of people out the door. That quick display of temper demonstrates to me that’s not a safe place to be drinking if that’s the temper and attitude of the staff there. Take your money elsewhere, particularly if your party has anybody with foreign IDs.

In Key West you have many options for your drinking and partying, but there is no reason to go anywhere other than General Horseplay! The cocktails here are hand crafted, creative, and delicious. The vibe is laid back speakeasy styling with an eclectic design. We loved it so much on our trip we visited 3 times and wish we had found it sooner. If you love a good cocktail, great bartenders, and a laid back vibe this is the spot.
