Pretty much the only bar and dining spot in Layton.. tied to the sweet little beach resort next door. The menu’s got plenty to choose from, prices won’t break the bank and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. But what really hooked me was the vibe.. classic American bar meets laid-back Caribbean feel. Those hot nights with a cold drink in hand? Straight-up unforgettable.

Kitschy Keys bar and restaurant. It’s off season, so it’s very quiet. But the food is GOOOOOD. Breakfast burrito was amazing, I got 2 meals out of it. The fried green tomatoes and island fish app were really great too. Hubby enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. Meals are convenient here since we are staying at the Lime Tree Resort. Just a few steps away. Prices are fair. The cooks definitely know what they’re doing.

I want to preface by saying I’ve been here many times, loved it made friends (photos of us and their furry friends) great memories. Great food and service. For some reason, the last two times I’ve been here I’ve experienced discrimination from this one employee. I’ve always loved the vibe, made friends and recommended this place many times in the past. As soon as I arrived to join my partner with my small pup, there was no “hello”. No “what can I get you”. No smile. Brian was locked in with this Principal-of-the-school attitude and said “no dogs at the bar”. I pointed to the other dogs, he said ok put him on the floor. I smiled agreed and politely left because the vibe was off. The next day, I told my fiancé let’s please just eat at the tables as I saw Brian eyeing us with the dog. Mind you the big “pet friendly” sign and other patrons had their dogs with them (on the chairs) so I had my pup on my lap. Brian left the bar to come to my table and said “your dog has to be on the floor”. I can follow rules, and at the same time can spot discrimination. I said “sure, but they have the dogs on the chair”, he proceeds by saying “I didn’t see them” and continues to let everyone else with their dog without saying a word to them. Was it because they didn’t look like me? Why ask one person to do something and not apply it to everyone. This left me with a bad taste of this place. Such a shame because Chrystal and the gentleman who served us on Saturday were both fantastic.

We were looking soforward to our first dinner in the Keys and in such a mood for a delicious Mahi Mahi with a Mango sauce as described on me and to my surprise it was a disappointment as it tasted so fishy and unappetizing. The waiter was unable to confirm it was fresh or frozen. First and last meal at this place.

We ordered the grouper fingers, the boom boom shrimp and a side of fries. It all came out to less than $40 (including taxes, not tip). I am really glad I stopped by because the food was delicious. I have never liked the taste of grouper until I tried it here. My wife likes it and that's why we ordered it. I really enjoyed it. It tasted incredibly fresh. The sauce on the shrimp was amazing. I recommend this place. I will definitely be going back.

This was our first visit, and we will definitely return when back down. Service was great, everyone was very relaxed and gave off the Keys vibe. The food was great and at decent prices, which isn't the easiest to say for many establishments. They offer a variety of drinks with a full bar, try the Keylime Colada for a frozen treat. The only issue with our experience, flies, if dining outside. Some of those fly fans would be helpful, but hey, we knew it may be an issue.

One Star Is Too Generous – Major Red Flags at Florida Boy

Our experience at Florida Boy was disappointing from the moment we walked in. The place was completely empty — which should’ve been our first warning sign. The only people inside were the staff, including a server who was sitting at a table with dirty dishes in front of her when we arrived. We had to seat ourselves, and even then, had to brush leftover food off the booth seats from whoever was there before us. Not exactly the welcome we were hoping for.

As we sat waiting, it honestly felt more like a chaotic break room than a restaurant. The bartender was singing loudly to himself, the atmosphere was bizarre, and there was absolutely no sense of professionalism. When the server finally came over, she cracked a string of uncomfortable, cringe-worthy jokes before taking our order — then walked just a few feet away and sat right back down with the cook.

What happened next was beyond unacceptable: the cook, sitting there with a vape pen, asked her “What did they order?” She repeated our order back to him as he took a huge hit from his vape and blew the smoke out right in front of us, inside the restaurant, before heading to the kitchen.

At that point, we both looked at each other and thought, “Do we even want this food anymore?” It was hard to imagine what might be going on in the back if this is what’s happening in full view of customers. Hygiene clearly wasn’t a priority — and we seriously doubted any hand-washing was taking place.

Trying to get away from the madness, we stepped outside to finish our wait — but the chaos continued. It was obvious that something wasn’t right with the staff. The behavior gave off serious signs of drug use and no one acted like they were there to run a restaurant.

To sum it up: this was by far the most uncomfortable and unsanitary dining experience we’ve ever had. If you’re considering giving Florida Boy a try, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. We stuck around hoping it might turn around, but it only got worse. One star is far too generous — this place deserves negative stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Outstanding dinner and relaxing atmosphere!

I had the lemon pepper chicken tonight—two generous grilled chicken breasts bursting with flavor, served over a huge bed of rice and asparagus. At just $19, the portion and quality were incredible. The staff was attentive and reassuring about my shellfish allergy, confirming no cross-contamination, which gave me peace of mind.

The Pain Smasher cocktail was the perfect pick-me-up after a long drive, and the key lime pie was a delicious way to wrap up the evening. Service was prompt and friendly, and I loved the laid-back vibe of the outdoor bar area. Definitely planning to come back soon!
