We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday while returning to Miami, a place we once called home. We ordered appetizers, drinks and the Captain’s Platters thinking it would get better spending over $100.
Unfortunately, the portions were quite small, and the seafood seemed overly saturated with lemon, perhaps in an attempt to tenderize it, which overwhelmed the flavor.
The bright spot of our visit was a young lady who appeared to be serving in a dual role as both waitress and food attendant. She was pleasant and provided good customer service despite being stretched thin.
What was most disappointing was that the employee who handed us our menus stated that he wasn’t ready to cook because he was watching his soccer (football) game. That left us feeling unwelcome and set the tone for the experience.
Sadly, this was not the Captain’s I remember from years ago, and I don’t think we’ll be returning. That truly saddens us, as we had looked forward to revisiting a place that once held fond memories.

My family and I ate at Captain Jim’s while staying on vacation in Miami. We got a table right away and although not busy, it took a little while for us to get service and we weren’t checked on during our meal. That’s okay with me - I like to be left alone to eat(:
The crab cakes and shrimp & grits are both delicious! As was the fish sandwich. They have kids options as well with good portions. Everything comes out fresh and piping hot.

Our server was amazing, the food was top tier, and the atmosphere is great. I’m never disappointed eating here. Hubby and I recommend, for a very hungry couple, the cup of chowder, large portion of stone crab claws, and the captains basket fried with sweet potato fries. Finish it off with rum guava cake, 10/10. Thank you!

This is a good little seafood joint. They have really fresh fish and seafood that they also sell over the counter. I would go back and try another entre'. Didn't love what I had, but there were other options I would try

Love this little gem! Randomly found it while visiting Miami for the weekend. Fresh yellowtail snapper was delicious and our server Jody was fabulous.

Good food, nothing fancy. I had the shrimp and grits. My wife had the fried shrimp. We’d order it again.

it's a hidden gem. the restaurant side is quite clean even its right next to the small seafood market. lobster Mac and cheese croquette was creamier than I expected and perfectly crispy, though its hard to find the existence of lobster. shrimp and grit was delicious with strong butter and shell fish flavor. grit was slightly undercooked but it went well with the sauce. snapper sandwich was fresh but not impressive. fries was boring. Caribbean fish soup had strong fish taste in a good way.
