She chatted with the bartender and then ran her fingers through Jackie the bartender’s hair. Next thing I see is her pouring drinks, Dusse to be exact. No washing of hands. That’s gross and shouldn’t happen.“

“Amazing evening out. Everyone was so friendly as you entered the restaurant. It started with one of the best pomegranate martinis I ever had. Our server Jessica was excellent and all the servers that came to the table paid attention to detail. The most impressive part of the evening was the impeccable style of chef Justin. We had the 6 courses chef’s adventure tasting menu and I cannot say enough about the cuisine. The harmony of flavors and the mastery of technique with the plating presentation was magnificent. The chef came to the table to explain each plate that was presented. He’s very knowledgeable regarding the dishes he prepares and you could see his personality come through in the way the dishes were plated and the flavors that came through with each plate. With the cuisine Justin is preparing this restaurant could be a Michelin star restaurant in notime. By the way I am gluten free so the chef had to make changes to my dishes only. I cannot say enough on how much we enjoyed the entire evening. We will definitely be visiting Matthew’s again.“

“I went on a Sunday afternoon. Very quiet. I had the patty melt and fries. The patty melt is always my go-to when I eat here. The fries are hit and miss. This time, they were not too bad. Sometimes, I can tell the grease is not fresh, and the fries have that dirty grease taste. Service was average. That can be hit or miss as well, depending on the server.“

“Dewey’s on NAS Jacksonville was a great surprise. The menu is simple, with basic military-style cafeteria food that’s been upgraded a notch, and the prices are hard to beat. Most meals were very affordable, and even the most expensive option was only around $15 and came with a generous portions and sides.

I ordered the Dewey Club, and it was massive. It was stacked with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, topped with a great sauce and served neatly cut in half with the toothpicks :) The fried pickles were fresh, hot, and excellent. The mozzarella sticks were also hot and crispy and came with a requested large serving of marinara sauce. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Our waitress, Susan, was the highlight of the visit. She was energetic, friendly, and genuinely seemed to enjoy her job. She accidentally forgot my wife’s Caprese salad, but when she came back to check on us and realized it, she immediately apologized and handled it with humor and professionalism. My wife ended up sharing half of my sandwich and was completely satisfying , so it all worked out.

One thing that always makes a restaurant experience better is being served by someone who truly enjoys what they do. Susan made us feel welcome, comfortable, and appreciated as customers.
