Daruma North Sarasota - Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge

First time there and will be the last time. The shrimp still had the veins in some of them and was over cooked. Scallops were over cooked on the out side and raw on the inside. I couldn’t even when eat most of the proteins Steak and salmon were over cooked and dry. The rice had no flavor, just rice with nothing else and too crispy on some of it. Chicken was just okay. The tempura vegetables was the only good thing we had. Very expensive for what it was. The show was not great but he was very nice. Service was good. Wish we would have complained to management. Should have read the reviews before going there. After we paid and were in the car was when everybody started comparing their dinners and how bad it was. None of us will be going back. The best place was the ice cream shop after for a scoop of ice cream.

Always our favorite place to eat! Staff is always friendly and the food is amazing!

Apart from the soup and green tea there is nothing Japanese about the food at this restaurant.
I used to live in Japan.
The chicken was stark white and tasted off. Serving meat in chunks like they do is insulting.

It has gone downhill over the past few years and is no longer worth going to. When we first started going there years ago, it was a fun place with the hibachi cooking and the food was good and plentiful. We went again last night for a birthday celebration. It was very disappointing. The prices have gone up significantly. The chef went thru the motions but was not really into his job. Our server messed up our drinks and overcharged us considerably when she didn't understand our order for 2 young kids. The quantity of vegetables was about half of what they used to be. The only good thing was the steak, scallops and shrimp were good. But to spend $450 for 5 adults and 2 toddlers is ridiculous considering what we got. It's a shame since the concept is great.

With reservations seated very quick food was excellent and portions where great would definitely recommend

The family got together for a Birthday party and reserved a table which was shared with strangers that had a screaming toddler (the restaurant did not have enough sense to sit them somewhere else). The service was TERRIBLE, yet this establishment ADDS 20% gratuity to the bill ! Unable to get a drink or water refill, the salad which comes with the meal was never served and when we pointed it out it was met with a non chalant shrug by the waitress. 2 family members ordered white rice which comes from the kitchen and after asking TWICE where it was it showed up in the middle of our meal. Sushi had been ordered as appetizers, which showed up at the end of the meal after asking the waitress twice where it was. The steak was tough and unflavorful and the veggies dry and overcooked. This place is nothing but a food serving factory and you feel like you are on a conveyor belt being pushed on as fast as possible.
The ONLY one that stood out and was great was the bartender lady at the bar when we first came in.
Regardless, we will NEVER be back.

Stopped at Daruma North with friends the other night. We elected to sit at the bar. I enjoyed the cauliflower from the bar bite menu and a Mexican sushi roll. The Lychee martini was out of this world. Ashley made a point of stopping to say hello even though the restaurant was incredible busy. Looking forward to our next visit.

Stopped in and sat at the bar. Ordered from the bar bites menu and was amazed at the amount of food you get for less than $10. One of the best deals in Sarasota. Both bartenders were incredibly attentive despite being very busy. The manager. Ashley, also stopped by to thank us. It's a small personal touch, but very appreciated. Absolutely recommended.

My Mom was visiting from out of state, so I decided to take her to DaRuma on Fruitville for a fun hibachi dinner. So happy we went! The chef was entertaining, the filet was tender, the seabass was cooked perfectly and we loved the rice. Ashley, the manager, made our visit so memorable when she introduced herself while making sure our experience was nothing less than amazing. We will definitely be back!
