First, and most important, its an independent movie theater and its a nonprofit. Second, they did a beautiful job of repurposing a building and contributing to the cool downtown Athens vibe. The bar is reasonable and the staff outgoing and helpful. In addition to two dedicated movie screens, a third room (the Lab) often features music but can also show film as well.
an incredible theater! what a privilege to live in a town with a theater that believes in accessibility of film to both viewers and filmmakers.
Very cool little theater. I saw Frankenstein and had a beer. Very nice atmosphere.
Great staff, great seating, great overall experience. Support local!
My favorite indie cinema! Love the films they curate. Folks working there couldn't be nicer. I do wish the Lab had proper seats ideas of folding chairs but otherwise this is a must for film lovers. I go every time I visit Athens.
What a cute movie theater and thank you for being super affordable!
Love this venue!
The best place to watch a movie or even just hang in Athens, GA!!!!!!!!!
Great small artsy cinema. Love the unusual films!
Cine is usually a great place to see a movie in an intimate, laid back setting. I would be careful about choosing a showing time in which there's also music in The Lab though. We recently went to see Weapons on the same evening Dub Bonanza Block Party was happening in The Lab and the music was very disruptive to the movie.
The vibe is usually chill and the prices are great, so I do recommend Cine overall - hopefully the sound folks in The Lab can work out volume levels that don't interrupt the movie-goers' experience.

Wonderful little art house theater in downtown Athens. Great place to see indie films and limited releases. Consistent quality films showing. Sometimes, including discussion panels or filmmaker Q&A.
incredible charismatic intimate historic theatre. the bar is reasonable, staff are all obviously committed and the environment is so comfortable. support local nonprofits!
My son's band, Kaimera, got the opportunity to host a show at Ciné on 5/31/25. While I wasn't there for the movie theater experience, it seems like a great place to watch movies and hang out in the Cafe area. The room where the bands were playing was a great size and had seating and tables to place drinks/food. The stage was large enough for the bands to comfortably move around and play their instruments. Staff members were very friendly! It's so refreshing to have a venue that is willing to give a young band an opportunity to get their name out there. My son said he and Kaimera would love to do more shows there if given the opportunity!
Great sound. Great film selections. Excellent cocktails. Lab is a terrific music space.
The staff was friendly and the place was nice, but my experience kind of sucked. I had to ask somebody to clean up the spilled soda all over my seats, but the bartender was nice and cleaned it up herself. But there was no lighting to move around and find your stuff, so you have to shine you phone in peoples faces. And we paid to see a 3 episode premier and they only played 2. It took 15 minutes for us to find somebody, half the theater was walking around looking and standing at the counter in the lobby. But somebody finally came out and was friendly and gave us refunds after somebody asked. Maybe it was a bad night, but I would go somewhere else especially for a date night
