I visited the Firehouse Subs on Prince Avenue and ordered a sub. After taking it home and starting to eat, I discovered what I initially thought was a piece of steak, but upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an old piece of tape with pubic hair and other contaminants. This was extremely disturbing, and I became physically ill and threw up after realizing what it was.
I immediately returned to the restaurant and showed the staff. The cashier denied having any tape at all. When I pointed out the tape near the cashier area, she changed her story, claiming that they didn’t keep tape behind the food preparation area. This inconsistency was concerning.
After I explained that I had become ill and did not want another sub, the cashier offered to note my name for a free replacement. However, when I requested the sub back to have the piece of tape tested, she claimed it had already been thrown away in the locked outside bin.
I reported the incident to the health department and provided evidence and a receipt from the location. The health department followed up, but the restaurant denied the incident despite the evidence.
They claimed to have checked the camera footage and said they didn’t see anyone grabbing or using tape. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the tape wasn’t there. It was an old piece of tape, and it’s possible that it was inadvertently introduced during food preparation or handling, not necessarily intentionally but due to negligence.
Either way, I am deeply disturbed by the lack of accountability and honesty. I strongly urge everyone to be cautious when visiting this location.
