MY FAVORITE BAR IN THE WORLD- ONLY CRITIQUE IS THE SMALL HILL WITH THE UNOFFICIAL “STEPS,” MAKES IT HARD FOR MY DISABLED FRIENDS TO STAY INCLUDED. Not all disabled folks are confined to a chair- so yes the seating area does have roomish for wheelchairs. However some disabled people would like a little assistance walking up the hill from the downstairs/outside area to the upstairs outside patios. A small ramp with a handle, or replacing the outside stair set on the patio with a ramp would make it accessible to come from downstairs to upstairs. I’d love to get a go fund me going, and yes make a donation for the construction it would take. Pride was a 9/10 would be 10/10 if there was a little bit more accessibility at Church.

One of my favorite bars in athens. Cant beat the vibe and the basement my favorite for dancing and being lost in my own world.

I found the use of Christian imagery and church symbolism in a bar setting to be deeply blasphemous and offensive. Faith is not a costume or a punchline. For many of us, Christ is sacred, and seeing holy symbols turned into décor for drinking and partying felt like open mockery. Scripture tells us that Christ will not be mocked, and I truly believe establishments like this cross a serious line.

If you are someone who holds your faith closely, be aware of what this place represents before you go. I personally cannot support a business that builds its identity around parodying something so sacred.

I just had a horrible experience with one of your bartenders—a woman with a dark bob haircut who was wearing baseball cap. I’ve been going to Sister Louisa’s for a few years now and have only ever had positive interactions with staff and bartenders and even know some personally, but tonight was a different story. I sat down at the far end of the bar with my friend and waited for the bartender to get to me. It was a busy night, but eventually someone took my order—not a problem, I used to bartend and know what it’s like to get backed up. Anyway, by the time the bartender checked on our end of the bar, my friend and I had been sitting there much longer than anyone else, and I mentioned that we were probably next—still no apparent issues but apparently this comment didn’t sit well at all. She let me place a drink order (just some vodka mixed drinks), and when they came back they were so watered down that even when several other people tasted them no one could tell tell if there was any alcohol in the drinks at all (not an issue I have ever experienced before at Sister Louisa’s, I’m used to the drinks being pretty strong). Anyway, after she brought the drinks out, she again scanned the same section of the bar where my friend and I were seated, seeming unsure of who to go to next. Since she seemed new and unsure of what to do, not to mention she had just gotten to me and was still in my vicinity, I said, “oh hey, I think my friend’s next.” Again, we had been there much longer than anyone else nearby, and the tone of my voice was not in any way belligerent or demanding, just trying to get her attention in a normal, acceptable manner. Up to this point I was unaware that I had upset her so much—I’m on the spectrum and do mean my best but can’t always read people right off the bat—but after I said this, she was visibly angered and disturbed. I noticed this and tried to apologize, saying “I’m so sorry, I really don’t mean to be rude.” Then before I could finish my thought she quipped, “well you ARE being rude.” Afterwards, she made the decisions to deliberately ignore my friend and even avoid eye contact with us, going to every other customer at that end of the bar before him—some of these people had even sat down while she was giving me the drinks I had ordered. Like I said, I completely understand being backed up and busy as a bartender, and I know you can’t always get to people in the exact order that they sit down. But this was deliberate and petty and completely unprofessional. I’ve never had a negative experience with a bartender here until tonight, and I would never interact with a staff member or bartender without good intentions or a good attitude. I don’t write reviews ever, but this was just completely uncalled for and truly disturbing. I hope this person was just having a bad night, but even if that’s the case, I don’t deserve to have it taken out on me. Whether or not the bartender misconstrued my words, this is completely unacceptable customer service, especially for a place like Sister Louisas’s.

Used to love this place. Haven’t been I. A hit and used to be able to smoke in here. Didn’t know that had changed not a single sign and get screamed at by some punk bartender. I’ll never be back. Absolutely unnecessary. I’m not some ounce drunk college kid. Could speak to people with so common decency. Not to mention in 15 min I see him taking 3 shots. As someone who has bartended it’s super unprofessional to drink on the job not to mention it’s normally illegal in most states.

NYE bouncer was whack. Pulled me back by the arm after I walked in and made a rude remark to my face because I was apparently trying to sneak in - He had literally checked my ID 3 seconds prior? I told him this and he was just silent as he checked again. Weird attitude.
