I love this place! I tried the baba ganoush (sp?) and pita chips from the farmer's market and had to see where it came from. The flavors are amazing. The owner may appear gruff but he's truly kind, just not over the top. He answered all my questions about the food and beverages, and I even tried jalab on a whim- it was outstanding! For some reason, i'm usually the the only person here which makes for a great setting to read a book and have a nice meal. Highly recommended!

The owner is rude and didn't greet me when I walked in to order, just stared at me. Maybe it's a racial thing.

The food is incredible, especially for the price. I had family visit and ordered takeout from The Sultan and they talked about it for weeks! The service is incredible and the food is impeccable, they even serve homemade feta!

Owner is so rude. Like he literally could not say hi when I came in to grab an order. He seemed like he didn't even want to talk to me. HE LITERALLY DROPPED THE ORDER INTO MY HANDS like he had enough of me and wanted me to immediately leave. When I initially went here when it opened up I had no problems. Didn't really like the food much when I went the first time. Idk. He just made me feel like he was disgusted with me! I rarely (if ever) feel this way when dealing with people in the restaurant

I chose one star because it wouldn't let me choose zero. Stay away! Very rude, crude owner or mgr. My wife and I were going to try this restaurant because we were in the mood for something different. Moments after arriving and parking in one of several available parking spaces and getting out of the car ( my wife was still in the car) this guy starts yelling from the door of the restaurant, across the parking lot, asking " What do you want? Move your car move your car" I did. We went somewhere else. I have to wonder what he was hiding inside.......

I read the reviews before I went to The Sultan for lunch. After my experience I cannot understand the bad reviews. The owner is a very quiet, reserved gentleman who takes pleasure in discussing food. He is quite knowledgeable. He is not overly familiar at first, he is matter of fact. He speaks in a quiet voice so understanding him can be a tad difficult at times. He will explain anything you ask about the menu items The food is wonderful. If you are unfamiliar with Middle Eastern food, or the Sultan platter. It is an ensemble of some of some Middle Eastern specialties. For dessert ask about the types of baklava and other offerings. I was there with 4 people of varying age 23 to 70. All throughly enjoyed the food and the experience Please sample the foods of different cultures. Chances are some of your DNA came from that region

As I write this, the Sultan enjoys a 100% health rating. They are perfect for a Friday dinner meal, as they are never overcrowded. The owner is attentive to customers and he really cares about your experience. The food is always freshly prepared from the finest ingredients.I can truly say with total confidence that my family has never had anything less than a delicious, authentic, home-style meal from the Sultan.

The shawarma with rice is amazing. I've only been there for lunch. With an appetizer and drink, it runs about 15$. The owner is often the host, server and cook. He is gruff but competent. As authentic and good as the food is, the restaurant is usually empty. The atmosphere is part grocery store, part Persian music video. It seems like you are at his house uninvited. And yet, I keep going back. The humus is just that good.

I go to the Sultan about once a month. It's a really strange place but, here's my suggestion. First of all get over yourself about hospitality- this isn't the welcome wagon and you're not getting a bouquet. The owner guy is quiet, but he's not rude. He has a hard time hiring young people that actually show up to work. Go during lunch, weekdays. Order the shawarma w/rice and some hummus. Finish with some baklava. About $15, great quality, and you won't wait more than 10 minutes tops!

We went there for lunch and got there at 1:30, before their closing at 2. We were not welcomed, service was barely adequate, the meal was overpriced, not that good, $40 and barely enough, and the owner seemed to unconcerned if we were there, almost if we were a bother. We will not go back again.

Mediterranean Americanized Food 3/5 -See Menu and photos We usually like Mediterranean/Lebanese food and wish there were more choices in the Athens area. Service 3/5 Location 4/5 Conveniently located on a main street of town. Parking seemed adequate Look for wood covered outdoor seating next the road or it's easy to pass by. Facility 3/5 Middle Eastern decor and tv stations.

The food was so good, the service was friendly, kind, and timely, and the prices are unbelievable! A real gem and I will definitely return.
