We had a “date night” quick neighborhood dinner at Bar.bacoa after a visit from family. A good rating because it was a bit of a mixed bag. Beer selection is good, but a spicy margarita was nothing special. We had tapas; some were excellent (bacon wrapped dates, corn and poblano empanadas) while others were disappointing (salad with apples and manchego; shrimp and grits with too much sausage that just tasted like grocery-store kielbasa). Good, but not great, even vs. expectations for a neighborhood place.

Tacos were disappointing. Everything else was good. Shrimp & grits, bacon wrapped dates, beet salad were good. I’d come back for those, not the tacos.

We’ve come hear at least once a year and after 1 year the food quality has gone down. Everything tastes plain and wasn’t as good as we remembered. The chips were as great as ever though.

Our server was Matt. He was really great in the beginning. He was really nice and gave great suggestions. He kind of slacked off towards the end. He wasn't as attentive and took forever to get us our bill. Will we go back.. absolutely

Enjoyed Bar Bacoa very much. My wife and I are native Atlantan’s and have been everywhere in Virginia Highland’s multiple times. For whatever reason, this was our first time to Bar Bacoa. The service was outstanding! Beverages and food were good! We’ll be going back!
