Mexican icebergs are such a hidden gem. I still come visit La Fonda, traveling from the suburbs to drink one on a hot day. The salads are SO GOOD. Chicken tacos are my usual order as well. The patio here is amazing.
We go to LA Fonda on a regular basis. First time, we were a little disappointed. The service was slow and the black means were somewhat burned. The waiter went back to taste from a pot and told us it was not burnt. It was the cumin. My wife who is a serious cook from the southwest tried them again and said ... yes there was cumin and yes they were burned. Hopefully this is just a one-off.
I've been eating at La Fonda for years and their food is consistently 5/5 at all of their locations (the paella is something special), but the service at this one left something to be desired. We never got our dip, and never had a chance to tell our waiter because we only saw him when he took our order and when he dropped our check. I waited tables for 10+ years so I am generally pretty sympathetic to all servers, but we always eat at off hours because of our baby and it...
