Lewis Barbecue Atlanta is a standout winter opening at Ansley Mall, bringing award-winning Texas-style barbecue to Piedmont Heights along the BeltLine. It is home to the world’s first rooftop pit room. The space feels warm and inviting, with a laid-back but polished vibe and that unmistakable smokehouse aroma. There is plenty of indoor seating and a rooftop that works even in winter.

The food is phenomenal and amazing. Pitmasters slice everything in front of you. The brisket is perfection—incredibly tender with a beautiful bark and smoke ring. The beef ribs are massive and rich. The Texas hot guts sausage has the right snap and spice. Other excellent meats include the chopped brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, and pork spare ribs with a good bark. A special beef n cheddar sandwich features smoked prime rib with green chili queso and horseradish sauce.

The sides are great, not common for a barbecue place. Standouts are the creamy and comforting Hatch green chile corn pudding, the mac and cheese, the dangerously good beef tallow fries, Tallow Fried Fries, and options like Collard Greens and Cowboy Pinto Beans. For dessert, the Lemon Raspberry Pie is very tasty.

Despite sometimes long waits, the experience is well worth it. The staff is happy, wonderfully friendly, proactive, and eager to explain. Lewis Barbecue feels like a destination and a wonderful, cozy but elevated addition to the neighborhood.
