Amazing place that has been around for decades. Pay up front and they bring out the food family style. The place sits on an old gold mine - you can get the history and look down the shaft. This is southern style food in an incredible setting. Don’t miss it!

Food: super bland. Gravy tasted like it was from a packet. Ambience: a college cafeteria.Pro's: Pics, mine shaft, memorabilia.

The family style eating is a comfort feeling but the lack of "hot" food let us down. It all tasted good but would have been better if it wasn't lukewarm. The house has amazing history. The staff were all friendly. We can say we visited.Parking: It was difficult to get into the parking lot because of people walking on the sidewalk across the driveway.

Food was really good, especially the fried chicken. Food was not really hot. No cinnamon rolls. Only on Fridau nights. Why a breakfast Food available only on Friday nights?

Had a nice quiet lunch at Smith house in dahlonega. Great chicken and the rest was just perfect. Love the new dining style as opposed to the family style service.

The Smith House restaurant is a family style restaurant where they bring everything to the table and you serve yourself. We had rolls, drinks, fried chicken and ham. The sides included green beans, fried over which was a huge hit, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy. The main reason we came to this restaurant was because they discovered a mine shaft here when they were doing renovations. You can see this mineshaft in the restaurant hallway. It is enclosed and really cool to see!Parking: Huge parking lot with over fill parking lot across the street.Kid-friendliness: My kids loved the macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and strawberry shortcake.

We had dinner for 3. The servers were very friendly. Fried chicken was excellent. The sides were “ok.” Mac and cheese was over cooked and watery, creamed corn was cold, the rest were fine but nothing to write home about. Fried okra was pretty good.

The Smith House didn’t live up to its reputation or recommendations. We arrived hungry and with open minds and considered this part of the Dahlonega Christmas experience. However, at $25-ish a person anticipated a bit more than what looked like instant mashed potatoes, ham that appeared warmed, and an occasional smile. The food is mid-to below average Southern staples. Signs on the tables state no refills on food … disappointing considering the cost per person. The fried chicken was good and crispy. The strawberry shortcake was also good. If you are someone who enjoys cafeteria-style food served family style this is the place for you.

Terrible. Waitress quized us whether we wanted white or dark fried chicken and brought us a bowl containing a single piece for each of us along some watery ham. Veg bowls were not refilled. At $22 per head we will never go back

Staff and service is amazing. Food is unremarkable and very bland...tasted like yesterdays leftovers. There are some great restaurants on the square in Dahlonega and an easy walk from the Smith House. You'll spend less and enjoy much better food.
