We were searching for a pup friendly restaurant to wrap up out trip to Ellijay before heading home. River St Tavern was the first to pop up, and the menu was agreeable to our group of 4. We arrived shortly after opening on a Sunday. We were led to the pup friendly porch area. I immediately noticed how dirty it was. Tables were dirty, and the floor literally had dog hair everywhere. I chalked that up to it being the dog friendly area, but I knew we were the first to eat in that area today. We ordered apps. Fried pickles were very good. Queso, chips and salsa were okay. Our table of 4 ordered the Tavern burger, American burger, patty melt and spicy chicken sandwich. The person ordering Tavern burger was asked for a cook temp, to which he said medium. When the burgers and melt came out, they were absolutely charred. The chicken sandwich was way overcooked. To make it worse, our waitress disappeared. We were all left with empty drinks for quite some time, until I waved her down and asked for refills. I figured she was busy inside, and we were on an outer porch. Then I walked in to go to the bathroom. the restaurant was completely empty except for the wait staff standing at the end of the bar conversing with 2 people who were apparently friends. When I went back to the table, our waitress brought the check and cleared my plate, which still had 3/4 of the burger there. She never asked if something was wrong. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly I cannot recommend. I hate doing a negative review, but we just paid $86 cash price for 4 ($102 with tip) for food that none of us enjoyed.

We had a very enjoyable meal there. Our waiter, Gary, was excellent. Very friendly and very attentive.

The bar is treated like a table...have to go through the hostess to be seated. Just seems strange. Sometimes you just want to walk in and order a drink.....maybe because it's small.

The hostess placed us outside on their enclosed porch. The only way to access the outdoor seating was through a sliding door that connects to the outside. Let’s just say it was cold. I ordered the green fried tomato BLT, on rye bread, and a Caesar salad. The sandwich was dry and the bacon and green fried tomato were cold. Unfortunately, it was also on wheat bread. It was terrible. The meat on the big game burger was tough. I ran out of my drink which didn’t help the situation. It was not a good experience. It was overpriced for the food we received.

Do the hostess a favor and let her go. She clearly does not want to be there. For the public, they'll say they will call you when your table is ready. But whatever you do, don't walk off. If the call doesn't go through, they'll skip you. Their only excuse will be that you didn't answer. And even then they won't apologize and offer to get you a table immediately. They won't make any effort to see if you're standing there on the sidewalk right in front of the front door.

Loved this place. A little crowded, a little noisy, cozy vibes. The service was exceptional. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

I was ecstatic about how many gluten-free options were available on the menu, and how conscientious they were about cross-contamination. I was able to have a Reuben sandwich on gluten-free bread, and it was so freaking good. Also had a really nice hard cider on tap. My date had the fish & chips and a killer bourbon.

All around great place, and would definitely visit again if I ever pass through Ellijay again.

Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options available. Staff is knowledgeable about allergens and cross contamination.

I was torn between trying something new, the wonton burger, or a patty melt. Our waitress, Brooke, said both were delicious so I let her surprise me. I am so glad she picked the wonton burger!! It was amazing! So good that we ordered one to take home. Excellent service and the food was great! I'd definitely go back next trip up from FL!

We found average pub food and a nice atmosphere. Was very loud on a Saturday night, so avoid if that’s not your thing.
Parking is typical “good luck” downtown parking, but it’s a nice, walkable area.
We enjoyed that we got a table at the window. There are a few tables outside.
Our server was super nice and appropriately attentive.

Not the quaint and cute Tavern that we expected…

Do not go when you see balloons up saying happy birthday (or any kind of celebration I suppose) because it’s either an employee’s birthday (an employees birthday was our experience) Or maybe even somebody else’s celebration. In either situation, it seems like they will not pay attention to you or bring you anything in a timely manner… even when the SMALL bar/restaurant is open only half full. With all four employees that were Front of house, we were looked at once every four times we were passed and maybe asked every 8 passes. I rate my experience at 5/10 only because the drinks and food are the true thing I can review considering the employees were in their own world like it was their own hang out spot. I’m sure if it wasn’t an employees birthday it would’ve been great, but unfortunately it was like one big frat party when myself and a couple people just wanted to sit at a table, have a couple beers and enjoy some really good bar food without hearing somebody’s screaming at the top of their lungs all the way down the ba (would have been way more understanding if it was a customers birthday). This will be my first time And unfortunately, because of the employees, it will be my last. Again, food was great atmosphere 7.5/10 But the employees really ruined it for me and my crew. Really upset because this is my hometown and saying that I can’t even go out im my hometown for a decent beer without being ignored as sad.

Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible for wheelchairs stairs to get into restaurant.

Sincerely some of the best wings and definitely the best mozzarella sticks I’ve had!

The burger and sandwich didn’t have too much flavor. My wife loved the cinnamon caramel drink!

Good portions! Convenient location if you’re in Ellijay.
