Finally Got There!For years this place was only open a very few nights per week. And I never seemed to be on my route between Florida and Atlanta on the right day or time to have a meal. It seems that their hours are now daily, and we were in the vicinity at dinnertime.The atmosphere is fun and old-fashioned. The counter servers are pleasant. The food is the thing and, while it is good, it is very limited. They essentially serve 3 things: Barbecue Pork, Brunswick Stew and Cole Slaw. They come in various combinations and permutations, but it comes back to those being the only things they have. The Barbecue Pork is very good and, surprisingly, devoid of clumps of fat so often found in similar places. A small amount of burnt ends are included for a pleasant accent. Sauces are on the table and come in mild or spicy, both on the thin side. Brunswick Stew was the star of the show. This is a delicious brew of…well, who knows and they probably wouldn’t tell me. Leave it to say that I could have enjoyed a meal of just that. The Cole Slaw is a little less successful. It’s a pretty pedestrian slaw—on the sweet side for me. I usually have to add salt and vinegar to my slaw and vinegar wasn’t to be had.If you’re a fan of pulled pork and Brunswick stew and don’t need anything else, then beat a path to Jackson. Next time I’ll bring a little packet of vinegar to enjoy the whole meal.

**EDIT**I traveled here with 4 other couples. 3 of the 5 couples went there on their own separate accords, the other 2 also complained. ... lack of choices and the vinger was what they said too.I think the only reason the locals think this BBQ is so great is cause that's all they know. The sauce is like water and so heavy in vinger that's all you taste. The slaw was mushy, the pickle was mushy.No fries, no Mac n cheese, just a vingery mess on a bun.Definitely wished I never stopped! The husband left hungry, and I left starving cause I didn't eat beyond the first taste.Shameful

Not what I expected. 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ is really hard to even give. No BBQ place should have fountain tea. You need fresh brewed tea. It’s a staple having a BBQ. That is a BBQ sin. The Brunswick Stew is not the correct consistency and missing ingredients. The flavor is there. Just not I’d expect for Brunswick Stew. The pork has not smoke flavor at all. No smoke ring in the meat or the burnt bark. As you know I hate fat in my pork. I spend the time to remove it. Don’t serve fatty BBQ. Especially in a plate or sandwich. The sauce is excellent but real BBQ needs no sauce. Let the meat speak for its self. The deserts are all store bought, not homemade. This was not worth the two hour drive. I was very disappointed in what I ate. It was probably good back in the day but not today.
This place is over 100 years old and you can see the history on the walls. Open seating, one counter for service, and one huge pit in the middle of the place. There is not a huge selection but when something is so good you don't need options! Chopped meat, vinegar-based sauce, cole slaw, and Brunswick stew...that's it and that's all you need!!

This is the epitome of down home, down south delicious bbq! And I noticed some one star reviews suggesting the five stars must be paid for, son this place in 2023 landed its spot on the best bbq *in America* chart at number 2. That's saying something! Number one was in Texas. Do you have any idea how many bbq joints there are in just Texas or Georgia alone? The other states don't matter, (most of em put slaw on their q anyway).Go to bed son and wake up on the right side of the bed and come try it again!
