Al Pan Caliente is a popular and often crowded spot serving authentic and delicious Mexican food. The restaurant is small with limited space, and parking can be a challenge. It is not very wheelchair- or stroller-friendly.
The food is generally great and flavorful. Specific dishes praised include the tacos ahogados, chilaquiles verdes, stuffed chilaquiles in the green sauce, and the mole enchiladas which are sweet and flavorful. The red enchiladas are spicier. The beans are a favorite, described as rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The traditional Mexican bread is amazing, and they offer an oversized concha. However, some found the carne and pollo in enchiladas to be in larger, dry pieces rather than tender and shredded.
For drinks, the horchata iced coffee is delicious, and the cappuccino and Mexican artisan coffee are great. Presentation for to-go orders is neat and thoughtful.
Service is described as good, though not always exceptional or exceptionally friendly. A balloon guy who works for tips is sometimes present and is a sweet and funny pleasure.
