Honestly, been coming to the Tavern for a decade and always have a good time. The venue space is evolving into more restaurant vibes which had its +\- (but big + for being one of the latest places serving food when every other restaurant kitchen in Hilo is closed!), but my STARS go to the Exhibit Gallery because it is 100% where I go FIRST w/ drink in hand to ease into the overall scene. I’m sincerely grateful for this art centered space. It allows for introspection, one-on-one conversations and true enrichment. Every time I come in there is something new to appreciate! My home is adorned with at least 3 pieces purchased from this gallery, each being a dynamic conversation starter for friends/family/visitors. I wish more bars had art galleries inherit within, creating a space to warm up to the external vibes and emerge centered and confident. MAHALO to the gallery owner for providing this safe space to network, grow and for LAYAWAY, making art affordable and accessible for the community!

Seems like a great place to hang. Lotta room, solid vibes, nice folks behind the counter. Like anywhere else, it ain't cheap, but the portions are big and they don't skimp on the drinks. Hard to find parking, though.

DONT DO IT!!!! ❌???♀️save your self’s from such a TERRIBLE place ?this is NOT a place that I remember the new owners do NOT know what it means to have ANY ALOHA or what it means to be family , this place use to be a place that was safe and loving from all walks of earth where you could come and enjoy some drinks sing some karaoke enjoy some great live entertainment and have a good time no matter what or who you are and now it’s NOT the vibes are off it is just not the same they even fired some of the main staff there who was some of the most beautiful souls and in doing so the rest left that was a family! Don’t think just because you have money and bought this place that there wasn’t a whole town who didn’t love this place and you changed it ! Hopefully you guys can go look for a new spot that makes u feel the way the original tavern made me feel cause this is NOT IT !! hope it survives or not ??✌?

RUN AWAY. The new owners are horrible, unpleasant people who are driving away all the staff, shutting down karaoke, and taking away everything that made the tavern a great spot to meet up any day of the week. They thought they’d just move here from Idaho and buy up a downtown restaurant despite have no business or cultural experience whatsoever. I’ll be finding a new weekly spot.
