We visited this coffee shop for the first time today and purchased drinks and chocolate before using the restroom. Since there was only one restroom, my boyfriend and I went in together briefly because we were trying to save time. I just needed to wash my hands while he used the bathroom.
Less than a minute after we entered, a female employee knocked on the door extremely hard and aggressively, which honestly startled us. When we opened the door, she simply said “one person.” I immediately walked out, so that wasn’t the issue.
What disappointed me was the attitude and the way it was handled. We completely understand if there’s a one person policy, but there are much more polite and professional ways to communicate that to customers, especially first time visitors.
To be clear, the employee with the buzz cut was NOT the rude one.
reply to the new comment:
Please do not twist the situation. I respected your policy and walked out immediately once it was mentioned. My review was never about the rule itself. It was about the employee’s aggressive attitude and the way we were treated as customers.
You keep ignoring the actual concern I raised. Enforcing a policy does not require pounding on the door aggressively or speaking to customers rudely. If that is considered “perfect behavior” at your business, then that honestly says a lot about your standards of customer service. Are you seriously saying that aggressively and urgently pounding on the door hard enough to startle customers is what you consider “appropriate behavior”?
Basic politeness toward people should be the bare minimum.
Also, it is simply not true that “everywhere” would respond this way. You should know that statement is clearly exaggerated.
Best iced mocha I’ve had in a while. Super chocolatey without being overly sweet, and the coffee still came through with great balance!
From the chocolate to the coffee this place is phenomenal. Atmosphere, and employees are so welcoming. I tried the Mexican coffee, and it was great. It has a kick to it, but very good.
Purveyors of both LOCAL chocolate and coffee, with a bar... The spicy Mexican hot coco is fantastic espresso and a shot of mezcal!
I tried the aloha coconut and rich dark mochas - they are so amazing!! Such good quality chocolate and coffee. The vibe is dark and cool with super friendly and helpful staff ready to talk about any of the products. I was visiting from O’ahu but they gave me a punch card so I simply have to go back 🥳
I recently purchased their premium single-district dark chocolate, priced at $12 for a 63g bar. However, the chocolate had an unusual dust-like and moldy taste that I’ve never encountered before.
While I appreciate the local chocolate factory, I would not have given such a poor review if the chocolate had been acceptable, but not exceptional. This chocolate should not be sold and should never have passed quality control.
I’m sorry but this is not acceptable.
EDIT: I’m not sure how to interpret the owner’s response. If it was meant as a dig at my reviewer profile, that’s disappointing. I leave honest reviews, and if you look at my profile the vast majority are positive. I also had two other people taste the chocolate without telling them my opinion, and both immediately spat it out. Instead of focusing on the reviewer, I would encourage you to take a closer look at the product and quality control.
Love This Place, amazing coffees, chocolate and fancy bar drinks💜

Created and fun ways to consume chocolate. All different types of local coffee.
Came for the frozen hot chocolate and it is amazing
Go figure… a chocolate shop that’s also a bar winds up being the best place for an early morning coffee and breakfast. This place is consistent and everything is delicious.
Yum! The iced mocha is insanely delicious, silky smooth and flavorful. Definitely a lot sweeter than my normal daily coffee, but I'd come back for it as a treat. My 6 yr old was obsessed with the frozen hot chocolate. My husband got the cold brew and added the chocolate for flavor and loved it. Wonderful little place! Definitely worth the stop in Hilo town.
Coffee is really good. Our top 3 chocolate are cashew sea salt, macadamia coconuts and 90 dark. I would buy those again.
