I ate here at least once a week when I lived in Hilo. The chicken pho is some of the best I've ever had (including my travels to Vietnam). Also, the sate noodle soup is insanely flavorful.
Could use more ambience. But the delicious food and friendly staff more than make up for any shortcomings in the decor department.

Pho is mid, and the portion is small. Had to get some Taco Bell after this. Compared to photos uploaded by other customers, I only got few pieces of beef. Was it because I’m the last customer of the night and boss just wanted me to leave? When I leave and said thank you to the owner, he didn’t even bother to answer or look at me

Van's is a good place to go for authentic Vietnamese food. It's not a five-star restaurant as it has open seating and waited on by the family. The food is authentic and cooked fresh to order. It's a little bit pricey but given its Hawaii you can expect it to be a little higher than normal. And I would imagine that the rents they are paying in the strip mall for their location is expensive, too.

Excellent tasty food and very reasonably priced (large portions) - we had beef rolls, pho and sate-beef noodle soup which was plenty to feed a family of 2 adults and 2 kids

Straight forward basic Vietnamese fare. Perfect comfort food. Had the grilled pork vermicelli bowl with spring rolls. Everything was super fresh and the service was super fast. Go here instead of chain fast food. Same price just as fast.
