Went for valentines day. Food was very meh. Filet just didn't taste good. Very ordinary and not special. Service was just OK and it seemed confused. We sat outside and it could be nice but there was a wafting smell of a sewer.

I had the Caesar salad with chicken, and the chicken was over-salted. It looked like blackened chicken, but the rub they used apparently had way too much salt. If I had not been in a rush (to make it to the Cirque du Soleil show), I would have sent it back.

The Loco Moco was the best I've had (and I've had many at lots of restaurants and cafes).
The gravy was excellent, the beef pattie actually flavourful.
Given the nice setting and the air conditioning the pricing was decent $18 vs many in this neighborhood run from $16 to $20 and aren't as flavourful.
Iced Tea $4 including refills.
Staff was fun and relaxed.
Good afternoon stop.

honestly - it’s great.
Went for happy hour. They shrimp ceviche was the bomb. Had a small kick to it but so good. The steak taco were lacking and covered in grease. I would skip. Lots of things around in the little shop to try as well. Large bar area with a good bit of seating. 1 drink and 2 apps less than $40

Basalt is the most surprisingly amazing restaurant during our trip to Oahu. Such a great meal, everything we ordered were so delicious. We loved the ADOBO CHICKEN WINGS, the BOWL OF LOBSTER BISQUE, the RIBEYE STEAK, the MIXED SEAFOOD PAELLA. The perfect meal is not complete until you have the desserts: A Grand Marnier Mousse Cake (must-try) and Basque Cheesecake.

Miso black is delicious. The was served mildly warm. I sent it back to be heated, and it was much better.

I make a habit of coming into Basalt every couple weeks at least. It has always been exceptional food and service across the board.
Until today. Today, I followed the outdoor signage and patiently waited at the podium outside for several minutes with several more customers to be addressed. Nothing. Seated people enjoying their meals were giving the assembly of us confused looks and looking at the staff. Somehow, the staff was oblivious.
Collectively, we decided to try the Duke's interior entry to the restaurant. At which point we encountered a host. It's confusing, but alright.
I asked to sit at the bar, promptly got handed a menu, and sent on my way. Cool.
I wait, and wait, and wait at the bar for 15 minutes while the bartender comes and goes and am completely ignored except for the occasional dramatic glance. Not even so much as a greeting and a water. Nothing. There is no explanation as to the delay. Literally, nothing.
Observation of the staff seems to suggest everyone else is relatively in control of their domain. Yet the barkeeps' mannerisms suggest he is out of his depth...or something.
After a 20-minute endeavor dedicated to breakfast at this establishment and getting nowhere nearer accomplishing that, I gave up. I would have complained to the hostess as I was leaving, but she was anywhere but the podium and out of sight.

This restaurant is on the expensive side. Had dinner there before the cirque du Soleil show. Food is really good but I would expect something a bit extra for the price.

Not sure I understand all the positive hype, however our server Amber carried the day. Dropped in here for two 10 oz Prime Ribs and four beverages. A 10-ounce size Prime Rib rings up at $36…I mention the cost because from my photo I would estimate 6 of those ounces were 100% fat. I realize prime rib has a fat cap (Prime Rib Eye) but not normally to this extreme, this left about 6-7 bites. Vegetables were significantly undercooked, but the potatoes were on point. Drinks were solid (Mai Tai and Kim Crawford). Nice vibe on the patio. Bottom line: 2 Mai Thais, a wine and beer – with modest prime rib cuts, tax and tip, just over $150. Many better options in HNL at that price point.

The food is good. But the service isn’t what we expected. First of all it was pretty slow, which is understandable. But they forgot about the desert, and then messed up the bill by charging us extra. If we didn’t notice we would just pay.
DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, a lot of better options around this area with same quality of food but better service.
