I don't know if the chef is Indian or not, but their savory dahi toast is a great twist on the original version. Dahi tadka in the middle topped with crispy been leaves. Amber at the window has great interpersonal skills. I wish this place existed in Seattle where I came from.

I decided to try the Breadshop today after seeing a line outside their window several times as I drove by. Everything is easily pre-ordered and is ready for pickup at designated times. Read the baker/owner's CV as he's trained at some of the most prestigious places both domestically and abroad . Ordered the pineapple brioche bread with caramelized edges. It was sooo delicious that I could have eaten the entire loaf in one sitting! There is just enough pineapple in every bite and the caramelized edges really added a wonderful taste and texture. There's lots of free parking adjacent to the store and the staff are kind, courteous and helpful. The minute you walk up to the window, you will know that you're in the right place by the fragrant smell of wonderfully crafted, artesian baked goods. Take the time to visit the Breadshop in Kaimuki, you will be happy that you did.

Hands down the best croissants in Hawaii. The quality is beyond superb and the prices are more than fair. The praise ends here. It's almost like the owner wants to create barriers to their product. "Tell me you don't want/need my patronage without telling me you don't want/need my patronage." 1. Hours are 2-6pm. Pastries are (to me) a breakfast or lunch treat. Since I don't feel like having them for dinner, I need to enjoy them a day late, affecting freshness. Also, any 9-5pm workerbee will have difficulty picking up during the week. If they were open even 2 hours earlier, pick up could happen during lunch hour to enjoy the bread and pastries for lunch. 2. Ordering is exclusively online. My parents love the bread but struggle with online ordering/technology, and rely on me to order for them. They aren't able to stop by, browse, and purchase on their own. Unfortunate, considering their baked goods are absolutely stunning and the average person would probably buy more than what they planned to, after seeing them. 3. All pastries are not ala carte. The "assorted boxes" limit free choice and commit you to 4-6 random pastries you may or may not prefer. The last two croissant boxes I ordered did not have a single salty item. Annoying and problematic, because the prosciutto and gruyere croissant is by far the tastiest item they offer. IF I remember to check the site timely to place an online order ahead of time, and IF the item I want happens to be available, and IF it fits my schedule to pick up, I will be able to enjoy Breadshop. That's a lot of IFs...

I just picked up my order and noticed this item was still warm, everything but the lox bagel. Oh my goodness. I got the last one and wish I had another. It was smoky, dill, capers, onions, cream cheese were on point, but those roasted vegetables on top, lightly pickled, complex, may I please have another. I'm saving my pain au chocolat for the morning. I know they're awesome. I already cut into my slab bread to start prepping for soup crostini and had to eat the heel with some balsamic, 10/10. Will buy everything again. Thank you Breadshop! Your online ordering platform and friendly staff make this so easy!

I was exploring the neighborhood and came across this adorable bread shop. I walked to the window and they made me order online, even when I had questions, told me to read the descriptions. I ordered one of the worst breads I've ever had. It was terrible, I had one slice of the loaf and wasted the rest. All because they wouldn't help explain their options or communicate. Terrible bread and employees.

I would imagine the point of having to order in advance and the shop only opening from 2-6pm each day would guarantee that your order is fresh and not stale. I was a bit baffled. Staff were rather odd and unfriendly. I felt like I’d walked in during an argument or some annoyance.

"Where do you summah?" Stay away. RUN AWAY!! This is the L'IDIOTS of baking. You WILL submit!! I have never given 1 star for a business that produces a superior product........until today. Not at your convenience, not for you. Zero stars is the appropriate designation, but you have to give one. You MUST use their 100% impersonal, cold, bot, automated pre-order system left over from the pandemic, so 2020. You WILL pick up BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!!?? You can't look at their product line, just whatever you can see from the sidewalk, (because you're not allowed in). None of it is labeled, so you don't know what you're looking at. It's demeaning, cold, inconvenient, techy, rude, and insulting. And the hours? 2-6? So let's say you want some pastries with your coffee.......you WILL get that at 2pm at the earliest. You WILL adjust your life to their hours. Maybe they could make the hours 4-6? 5:45-6? Can the owner get any more chintzy with those providing his/her living? And the loaves are not cheap at $10-12 per loaf. You WILL buy a double loaf. You WILL pay with credit, no cash. The employees try, truly, they are wonderful, but the nicest person cannot overcome the arrogant insult that this business is. Parking? You WILL hunt for that for 10 minutes. Idc what the quality is, and make no mistake, the quality here is amazing, but the in-your-face, arrogant millennial pre-ordered tech requirement, the pick up by appointment only, the inability to look at the product before buying, the restrictive hours, removes any idea that the customer is important. If breadshop was run for humans, I would buy there many times per week. As it is, I'll never buy from them again. The only way to make this a colder and less-welcoming experience would be to automate the baking process and have you input a number outside on the curb, in the rain, behind a secured window with bars, resulting in your bread being served to you by an aluminum bot arm through rubber flaps that attempts a thumbs up gesture in three-fingered bot metal knuckles, plus a complimentary R2-D2 whistle as you leave in disgust. I suspect this change is in the works as I type this, probably debuting next year. The savings to the owner will be enormous.

The bread was really good, but the service was weird. I understand having a system, which theirs was to order online and then pick up at the window when you're notified your order is ready. I wasn't aware of that before going, so I got there and was the only customer. After standing there a bit, the girl says oh order online. Okay, cool, I can do that, but like there was no let me know if you have any questions, I can make recommendations, nothing. And she wasn't doing anything else haha because there was no one else to help. I don't know, didn't really feel welcomed, she just kind of made me feel dumb. Maybe I'll be back?

They have my favorite bread! When you cut open a fresh Sesame Semolina it has a fragrant nutty smell from the sesame and the crumb has nice airy irregular holes and a very nice chew as is, or toasted. Chris Sy has some serious baking chops. A couple other favorites .... The City is a white sourdough with a satisfying tang and smell. I still prefer Tartine's version - I will bring back wrapped loaves in my suitcase - but in Honolulu, Breadshop's sourdoughs, City or Country, are better than the rest. Another really good one is the Brioche. I like toasted bread and this brioche stands up well - walk next door to The Curb Kaimuki for the Kaya Toast and see. There is an assortment of different pastries that you can sometimes purchase individually, or grab in a blind four pack assortment. Sometimes they're meh, sometimes they're eye opening tasty. They hold up well the next day - you warm them up at 200 degrees for a few minutes, don't try to rebake them at a high temp! The croissants have to be on anyone's top three list in the city. Great crisp layers that flake off like snowflakes when you take a bite, a slightly dry airy interior, and a good soft chew. I get into phases where I crave a straight up crispy, buttery, plain croissant and I usually have to go here to find something that satisfies me. That said, I have issues. I dislike not being able to see and select what I want - online ordering has its usefulness but seeing a nice display is part of the pleasure of buying high quality baked goods. And, having quantities limited means often finding out something is already sold out one or days before you want to buy it. When I want to pick up a bread but find the plain croissants sold out or not for sale that day it leaves me a little peeved; and having to pick up bread in the afternoon goes against my instincts for buying baked goods. If the bread is sold out I also will not bother first ordering and pre-paying for a single plain croissant, then driving to pick it up in the afternoon to eat tomorrow - I'm going up the street for my croissant early in the morning to eat that day. But, I do really like that Sesame Semolina.

Can I be a little honest? Overhyped. Did alot of research on this place and read all the local pr articles before paying the online order of a box of 3 assorted croissants (pre-chosen for you at random), and a Country bread. The croissants were oily, not very crispy, and I really really disliked the taegu and cheese stuffed one (taegu is a Korean side dish of dried seasoned squid with a gochujang base sauce). The taegu was overly soft and squishy and I didn't like the seasoning. The country bread was not a dense loaf. In fact, it was slightly tough, and the inside was nearly hollow. The shop is not a kupuna friendly ordering system. Hours are inconvenient. Price points are higher for *artisanal bread and pastries. Maybe I am not ordering the correct pastries and breads that are worth the hype. The pictures everyone shares sure are beautiful, and they are beautiful to look at. But the taste and quality was not there for me. I don't think I'll purchase again any time soon.

Been here multiple times and I love it. Favorite is the olive slab! Slice it up with a little Kerrygold butter or with your favorite cheese and brahhhhhh shmeaaaaannnn! My friends from Japan love this place as well so makes for a good welcome omiyagi. Tried the croissants for the first time the other day and ummmmm just look at my picture. Order online and no scared ask um what they get left if you want to add to your order. Thanks Breadshop, service is always great!

Ordering is easy through the Tock website. You select the items you want and schedule your pick-up date and time. They will send a text message when your order is ready to be picked up. The parking lot entrance is along 8th Ave and you can park there and pick-up your order at the small window. The shop looks tiny and don't think they allow you to go inside. I ordered the brown butter oat bread and was amazed at how fresh and delicious it was. For the size and quality of the loaf, I'd say ~$13 is a fair price. Excited to try more items!

The food is excellent, but you'll want to preorder in advance. This is not the kind of bakery you can just show up at last minute on a whim.
