Longstanding neighborhood non-touristy sushi spot. Very cute. Super fresh fish. A favorite among Japanese expats here. We love walking over with our baby and sitting on the lanai. Staff is super friendly and attentive.Menu isn’t huge but the fish cuts are decently sized and the pricing is acceptable.Parking: Very minimal metered street parking available. Better to walk/Uber. Paid garage parking is available nearby in Eaton Square and at Canterbury Place.

I'm a recent transplant to the Ala Moana/Ena area so the first thing I did was scout the neighborhood for food options. Luckily, the likes of Aloha Kitchen, Sunny's, and Food Pantry are just steps away.Even better, whenever the craving for Japanese food hits, Chiba-ken is literally 200 steps away ? I've been here about 10x now and it's always a great experience. The food is good but I like the service and the vibe even better. Unlike a lot of restaurants, there doesn't seem to be a server assigned to your table/section - anyone that walks by is constantly checking on you. I've had up to four different people taking my orders and serving the food but there's never been a mix-up.And because it's so close to Waikiki, it looks like it's a mix of locals and tourists. In the late evening/night, it's always packed with people looking for good food and a good time. The pics aren't the best but some of the things I ordered on my last visit.Pro Tip: It tends to get busy here so if you know when you're planning to visit, reservations are the way to go.

Grilled Tuna belly special was cooked to perfection!! Fatty tuna nigiri was tasty. I loved the variety of vegetables in the tempura. The sake I had was dry (I prefer dry over sweet) and a great pour.Banana tempura is a no batter, fried banana with ice cream, very good.Overall, I enjoyed my meal and didn't mind splurging.Parking: The only lot is a block away at Eaton Square. Otherwise, street parking is limited.
Everyone used to joke that the building was cursed because no business here ever lasted a year. I’m so glad Chiba Ken is going strong.

Only one vegetarian sushi on the menu. It was yummy, though. Their miso soup was better than anything I've ever gotten in the continental US. My bro got the tonkatsu and said it was well cooked and tasty. Bit pricey for the portion size, but so is everything else in Wakiki.
