Heard about this place from my brother. Since my favorite foods are curry and katsu I had to try it. Found out it originated in Japan, so I had high expectations. The curry was good but the katsu detracted from the dish. I had the tonkatsu and my wife had the chicken katsu, but wasn't up to Japan standards. Additionally both had a burnt taste. At first I thought they overcooked my tonkatsu but having tasted my wife's chicken katsu, I think the problem was with the oil. They probably burned something else in the oil and of course once you do that, the burnt taste permeates everything else cooked in that oil. They probably need better oil management. This was a let down considering it's a Japan based restaurant and every topping is deep fried. Other than that misstep this was good and filled me up.

Food was okay and not as authentic or good as actual Coco Ichibanya franchise. We ordered spicy Chicken cutlet curry but it was somewhat about medium or less, also the curry was not that thick and felt little watery. Only 3 stars is just for maintaining the taste though.

Delicious! Very close to Japan! Was just disappointed that they don’t have some menu items.
Staff during lunch time were very terrible. I noticed them not doing anything. I asked for a high chair and I didn’t get it, I had to grab it myself for my kid.
When waiting for the table to be cleaned, they just slightly wiped it and didn’t do anything else. Barely clean. This is lazy work.

The curry was great! Very small inside and not a ton of seating.

If I could give 0 stars I would.. I can tell they rushed to cook the food because it had no flavor. I asked for spicy and it didn’t even taste mild. I asked for scrambled egg they said they only serve sunny side eggs I proceeded to go with the sunny side egg and it was basically raw. I rhetorically asked the waitress if this is a sunny side and she said yes never in my 32 years of life have I ever seen a sunny side egg look like this. If you had coco’s in other places this is by far the worst one do not recommend.

The chicken katsu is great. If in the mood for curry, just come here, it's not far, there's parking, and it's better than the place with the long lines out the door.

Per usual, just keep in mind that a four star review is not a bad thing from me. Anything over a three star review is better than average.
Curry House (Coco Ichibanya) is a local staple for a lot of people that have grown up here. I remember coming here often after school, after important events, or even after sports practice to get a quick dinner before I started my homework for the evening.
This location is in McCully Shopping Center. Do not confuse it with the location at Ala Moana which is only a few minutes down the road. This location is definitely a bit bigger and conceit more people. Plus, the AC is cooler at this location.
The staff here are always very nice and quite efficient when it comes to ordering and preparing the food. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the price of anything else nowadays. I usually don't spend more than $20 per person whenever we come here.
This time, I decided to get a Tonkatsu curry with cheese and it definitely hit the spot.
When it comes to parking, it can be a bit hard to find on the surface level due to some of the construction, but there is also parking in the underground structure around the corner. You can also use the elevator from the underground parking structure if there are mobility concerns.
Overall, I recommend stopping in if you like Japanese curry, and are in the area.

0 stars for this spot. Service is BAD. The white and Asian girl never greeted us when we came in. Never even said thank you when we left. They got one of our orders messed up, but the girl stared at us like we’re supposed to take what we did not order anyway. Super bad vibes and negative energy.
