This place is a hidden gem!
Casual lunch spot with delicious grinds.
They mostly offer plate lunches and have four specialty sandwiches. They also had some daily specials.
I ordered the kimchi Ruben sandwich (a regular item on the menu) and oh my goodness was it incredible (I still think about it and it’s been two weeks since we ate here).
If I recall correctly, sandwiches come with a choice of side- mac salad all the way for me.
Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back.
Free parking available in lot infront of building.
Short walk from Ward Center area.
I stumbled on this place randomly via Google Maps, wow wow wow! The location is a bit hidden, in the middle of a local district, nice and clean inside. The food is so so good, typical plate lunch offerings, they have regular dishes, sandwiches, as well as specials. I got the steak poke, and the bang bang salmon katsu, so delicious!!! The portion is very generous too. Would love to come back and try the other stuff. The store is frequented by a lot of locals and repeated customers, the staff is very sweet. Highly highly recommend you to step out of Waikiki to get here, experiencing the local aloha.
If I could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of my life, it would be Hamada General Store. I love the way their menu works because it’s always new and fresh. And on top of all that, the food is 10 out of 10. Absolute perfection!
One of the best lunch places in the state. Specials are always amazing. The seared ahi today was fantastic. The kimchi reuben is my go to non special item. Hits the spot every time.
Growing up, this was a local grocery store that my mother found deals on food for our large family. The grocery store is gone but the restaurant is fabulous.
Check them out on Instagram as well.
Didn't eat anything, but the menu looked good, maybe a little pricey (1 star deduction). Very friendly stuff!
Great place for lunch. Came all the way from Seattle for one of my favorite plate on the menu. Ribeye pok.

My mom says that she used to come to Hamadas when she was a little girl. Used to be a cheap place to buy dented cans at discount price. Today it's a restaurant. The food was on point. Small comfy environment. Food came out quick. I would go back.
Delicious! One of my favorite lunch spots. Daily specials are creative and amazing. Just wish I didn’t crave something I know I can’t get again the next day. I’ve never had something here I didn’t like. Recommend this spot to all my clients when they ask for food recommendations.

Hamada General Store is our store’s fave lunch go-to! Thankfully, they are our neighbors, but that’s not why we eat there so much- it’s because it’s darn good! The food is consistently yummy, as proven that we’ve eaten there hundreds of times. The combinations of flavors range from home style to high-end restaurants and the special menu changes daily so it’s exciting to read ?
The food portions are generous, (we always share between 2-3 of us *please note we are not huge eaters but sometimes the plates weigh at least 2 pounds) and the quality of the meats and veggies are consistently ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! I don’t like meats with inedible gristle, or “yucky” parts, and this is never a problem there.
Honestly I could eat there every day (lol, Lyndon our neighbor on the other side does!!). Check out their daily specials on IG, as they can run out quickly. My advice- save time, and call in to reserve your plate lunch. They take cash and card and the staff are friendly and fast :). Ps. The kitchen is fully open, so you can also see them making your food- if that makes you feel more confident about food prep and execution!
PS. The chocolate chip cookies with Mac nuts at the front are an easy treat to grab. Vegetarian? They also have a tofu watercress (sourced locally) salad with homemade Shoyu based dressing in their regular menu (and you can add some fried salmon katsu protein if you are a fish eater) that’s one of my go-to’s on many days.
Visiting Oahu? Try their fresh fish dishes!
Want a treat? Anything with their fried chicken or the salmon chazuke (my absolute fave from their Pineapple Room days) Yum! They also did the food at Home bar and grill.
Why did I wait three years for this review!! We love this place. We’ve recommended to hundreds of people, and hope you ❤️ it too.
Time to go. Gotta do my daily Hamada check. I’ll search my phone for photos to post but we always dig in and by the time we remember, the plate is decimated. My tips: SHARE! and always get from the special menu first and call in the morning if you really want something! PS. their poke/raw fish dishes are also really good! As well as their burgers and fries, yum yum! And the Tonkatsu sandwich was my go to for the first year. I must have eaten that 2x a month ?

This was a great place for our final stop before heading to HNL. Loved the rib eye loco moco and there was plenty for two to share. We were loaded down with luggage because we were using Lyft but there was plenty of room for us and our bags. Fast, friendly service and a good place to relax and eat.

Heard so many good stories about their plate lunches I couldn't resist.
Service staff friendly and efficient, keep waiting time to a minimum.
Besides their daily specials which sound enticing I decided to go old skool and got their Loco Moco. Let's break it down.
Gravy was excellent, perfect consistency, full body beefy flavor.
Beef patty smashed and smoky grilled with a nice crust
2 eggs over easy with nice runny yolks.
Perfect rice and potato macaroni sides.
Check out their menu, every dish sounds great and this is in addition to their 4-5 daily specials.
Makes me miss Hawaii even more, life is not fair
