CLOSED for BUSINESS - April 2020

Korean Kitkat

The cup had lipstick, the spoons were dirty, the vegetarian udon was okay. The place is supposed to be shutting down so we decided to give it a shot on our trip. I guess, I have had better food.

Tasty and filling Japanese food (udon, curry, donburi, etc). I hope they're able to find a new location, but if not you have until 3/26/20 to enjoy.

My only regret about this place is that I didn't try it sooner. I recently ate here with a group of friends. I chose the Katsu Don combo. Because they are closing at the end of the month the wait to get seated was quite long. But let me tell you, it was worth it. The combo was so good. It was a cold night so the hot udon hit the spot. The broth was simple and so tasty, and the noodles were perfect. The katsu don came in a giant bowl with lots of rice. It was crisp and delicious. I went back about a week later because I needed more. The second time around I tried the gyoza. The flavors were very good and the sauce went perfectly with the gyoza. I would go back just for that.

We stopped by here for lunch and I gotta say I liked it a lot. This is like a mom and pop restaurant that has the kind of food that seems simple and easy to make at home but you can taste the craft in the bites. It's authentic. For example, they make the udon noodles. The broth is a simple dashi with some negi (green onion) made from natural ingredients. It's nothing fancy but it just tastes so great. The noodles aren't too starchy, doughy or chewy. It pulls up the broth with each slurp. Maybe its just me but all that work really translates into the flavor. They've got some great lunch combos if you're into Japanese food. Curry, oyako, katsu, and kurobuta (ginger pork) served with their udon. Their udon bowls are varied too from meaty to vegetarian. I didnt get to try any. That's what makes this next bit unfortunate: they're closing. The building is being demolished and they're still looking for a new location. They'll be gone near the end of March. Go now!

My son wanted to go to Junpuu to eat their in-house made potato chips and gyoza. Me? I wasn't hungry, so I wasn't planning on eating. I knew if I didn't order anything he'd get upset and wouldn't want to eat. Therefore, I decided to get something small. Ended-up ordering the chicken Karaage and potato salad. It came with a small container of salt mixture. Tried a piece of the karaage... ohhhh myyyyy... yum-oh-licious! Nice and crispy, moist pieces of chicken. I discovered a new thing to eat here! I dipped the next piece into the salt mixture... ohhh, it enhanced the flavor of the chicken. You don't want to put too much or the salt will be overpowering. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few pieces of, I want to say, baked garlic, also made in the same manner as the chicken karaage. Ohhhh me ohhhh myyyyy... that was a bonus! I had to hold myself back from eating it all, and offered my son to try the karaage. He liked it. I left a few pieces for him to finish, including a piece of garlic, which I was surprised that he ate. As always, I enjoyed the potato salad, made in a Japanese style, with bits of onion and bacon, I want to say? My son was gracious enough to let me eat some of the chips and a small piece of his gyoza. I liked the slight chewiness of the wrap. The dipping sauce that comes with it is a vinegar sauce. Wish there was some layuu (sp?) to add to it. We sat outside because it was too cold inside. It was relaxing... I've always enjoyed my meals at Junpuu, with friendly service. And now, I have a new item to look forward to

The moringa zaru udon combo that is on special is ONO! The flavor is very subtle but I love the texture and chew of the noodles. The sauce and toppings are simple but oh so satisfying and makes it pure comfort food along with the perfectly cooked tempura. The -1 star is for the katsu donburi combo as the katsu was kind of tough and the sauce lacked that more sweet flavorful taste we look for in such a donburi. The tempura udon combo was solid. It is not a surprise that it a the freshness and chew of the udon noodles that stands out. Service was quick and efficient. I'm sad that this place will be closing March 26, 2020. According to their signs, they hope to relocate but have yet to find a new spot to set up shop.

Ordered the Pork Katsu Don combo with hot udon. Very filling and so tasty. The customer service was amazing and they always filled up my water and hot tea. We were in the back corner but still got so much attention.

Gonna miss this place in a few weeks... extremely consistent food quality and service for lunch... when in doubt get 2 things! Haha daily specials are usually winners!

When I heard this place was closing down, I thought this was the time to finally drop by... I didn't know at first that jimbo is an udon place, but that was a pleasant surprise because I love udon!! There was no parking in the front lot and I tried to locate their back lot that apparently had parking... I couldn't find it at all but luckily there was an open street parking stall. Lots of people waiting in like, took maybe 20 min to get in because we had a party of 2. A man came to take out order after about 15 min of sitting down. I didn't call them to take our because they were pretty busy and I would feel bad. Fast forward about 40-45 min, food's not out but the large party that came in 5-10 min after us were already eating. They forgot our orders. We were given complementary gyoza but it didn't do much to change our moods... So our food finally comes out and we got the spicy nabeyaki udon with pork. The taste was decent/good and they had a lot of pork in it, which is always nice. By the time you figure out that there's an egg in it, it's fully cooked and you've broken it to pieces. The not so pleasant surprise was finding a little bug in my udon. However, I didn't raise concern over this because I didn't want to wait even longer for them to remake it. I really wanted to like this place because it's closing down soon and I absolutely love udon... I don't feel like my experience was 3 stars but it wasn't as terrible as 2 stars...

I've been going to Jimbo's for past 15 years and my aunt for the last 20 years and we are sad to see it closed. I hope they'll find a place soon. They should take over the old aunty ramen shop 50 feet away for the original Jimbo's.

Place was fully packed and we spent 50 min waiting in a party of 6, but then they gave us 2 completely different tables. It was absolutely possible to put one of the tables so we can sit together, but the answer was strong "no". Without any explanation. We left.

I've been coming here for years, and finally I've come around to writing a review. I'm so sad because they are closing shop towards the end of March and apparently haven't located a new location I simply love Jimbo's. The food is delicious, noodles are freshly made, and the service is always friendly. Many others love them as well - they are always busy and usually there are groups of people outside waiting to be seated. I recommend going as early as 5pm for dinner so you can get in. Sometimes the orders take a while esp when you have more than 3 people. Parking is hard in their current location because it's small and it is shared with other businesses.

Tried their Zen Taru udon for the first time. Their food presentation is remarkable. The udon was extremely chewy. The taste of the tsuyu was good and the shrimp & vegetable tempura was very good. Prices are reasonable. Hurry & go before they close next month. Expect a wait.
