I just heard on the news that Megs Drive Inn was closing December 17th, sad to see them go after of serving up great food for over 50 years. Inflation and cost of living takes another iconic Hawaii business. I headed down today to get the Chicken Katsu and the place was buzzing with customers and it was nice to see most of the tables outside taken. The service was amazing as always. Everyone was smiling and in great spirits. I hope to get another chance to visit before they close. Thank you Everyone at Megs for years of serving delicious grinds.

"Not fine dining but fine food- da Kalihi Institution" Sorry to hear that another great mom n pop institution is going to be closing their doors soon. Over the many decades I have had a chance to visit Megs, I have always enjoyed their breakfast offerings and for lunches, their beef stew especially. Megs has been open since 1966. So recently I met up with a buddy for a chilly Saturday breakfast and also to pick up a container of their beef stew. Their burgers with the Meg's secret sauce and their beef stew- those are my two "go to" favorites when I go to Megs. I have tried their many offerings over the years but I will always come back to those two as my can't miss choices. Boss lady Loida said the pandemic, higher cost for food and materials, not being able to find adequate staffing and an expiring lease all lead to the decision to close shop. They need to take a well deserved rest and have a chance to enjoy life. Who can blame them. Megs is a dying breed. The one stop, mom n pop food drive in. No branches, just one long time location. Like Burgerland in Kapahulu, Frankie's Drive-In in Waimanalo, and Pee Wees Drive-In in McCully, Megs is about to become a ghost of our collective past, a fond remembrance of the good old days. If you've enjoyed their burgers, you can by a bottle of Meg's secret burger sauce to enjoy. But remember to use it because unlike fine wine, it will not get better with age if you keep it too long. You can still go by till 12/17/21, but call before you go to verify the hours. Support your Kalihi dining institution one more time.

Closing on December 17, 2021, after opening for many, many years. Used to go there every Saturday morning for breakfast when son was very young and had an activity nearby. Went back to pickup lunch for the last time. Wanted to try the steamed fish special, only on Thursday and Friday. One small piece of basa/ swai for $12.50. Not worth the money. I was still hungry, and I normally don't eat much. Included white rice and mac salad. Note: I normally go to One Plus One in moiliilii for the garlic basa, about $12. One Plus one normally gives three pieces of fish, basa. Now, that is worth it. Son had the liver, bacon, onion with white rice and mac salad. This is on regular lunch menu. Portion was okay, but not a big portion. Also got beef stew, 32 ounces. And beef curry, 32 ounces. $13+ / for each. Note: meat was hard, not easy to eat. I wanted to share my experience with you. Even though Megs is closing on December 17, 2021.

When I heard Meg's Drive Inn was going to close mid-December, I knew I wanted to check them a couple of times before the end. Meg's in on Waikamilo in Kalihi between King & Dillingham, near enough to work. There is street parking and about 4 dedicated stalls inside the lot they share. Although the dining room is closed, take out is available and they have a small outside dining area. They also have two ordering stations, one inside and one outside. From Yeeps like Nadine C, Fran C, Daniel C, Brian M, Jace T, Lyn L, Judy C, Maile K, and especially Sheryl M's Review of the day, I knew I wanted to try the chicken katsu. Noticed that were several upgrades available: a mix plate of two of the regular items (without an *asterik on the menu) for about $.50; and brown rice substitution for about $1. Both sounded good so I got the chicken katsu & beef curry mix with brown rice. For mid-afternoon about 3:30 pm, it took a little bit longer than I expected But there was pretty steady line of customers ordering and picking up phone orders. In due time my order was ready, nice and piping hot! Wasn't too hungry, so took it back home. Tortured by the smell on the way home. It made me hungry, so I dug in as soon as I got home. It was a good sized plate, fairly heavy, with lots of beef curry! I quickly dug in, very enjoyable with good taste. I don't like to eat a whole plate lunch, so I had to slow down and leave some for leftovers. Convenient location, good taste, good amount, and reasonable prices. Have to stop by again and check out some of their daily specials. Check them out before they close for good! Will repeat and recommend! #ThankYouThursday2021 #supportlocal

This review for Meg's Drive-In is long overdue, and sadly they will be closing soon, but I just wanted to drop a review for the record....Meg's has been around forever, and was one of my go-to's back in the day when I used to work nearby. It's off the beaten path for me now, but it's still go the best home style cheeseburgers around. My favorite order is "cheeseburger extra yellow on the side". Prices are great, and it's just too bad that they've decided to retire. You'll be missed!!

Will be very sad when they close on Dec 17, 2021. This is my place that I come to for simple comfort food. They are one of the few places that make old school classics like STUFFED CABBAGE on a regular basis and not a special. Love the YELLOW SAUCE that goes great with french fries. Then wash it down with a classic GREEN RIVER drink. If you decide to go I definitely suggest trying to call your order in because the daily specials run out fast.

Well fellow yelpers this place will be closing its business comes Dec 17th. As many times I pass by I never stopped and ate here. Well being its getting closer to its closing we stopped in today for lunch. I had the pork adobo plate and my husband had their mochiko chicken plate. IT came with 2 scoops rice looks like 2 scoops mac salad and the pork adobo on top their shredded cabbage. The taste too me was vinegary or salty but had nice pieces of pork chunks. Its not to sweet or shoyuery. The mochiko chicken was like eating deep fried chicken deep fried in mochiko flour. My brother said you got to try their specials like their pot pie. Well gang support them even though their business is closing and wear your masks.

Another business closing its doors. I remembered coming here for lunch when I could afford It. While attending Honolulu Community College I was on a tight budget. Megss has always had good burgers and plate lunches at reasonable prices. Thanks again to the hard working family and staff.

Awesome plate lunch spot on Waikamilo! I have driven past this place hundreds of times but never ate here until today. I'll admit, my coworkers saw that this place is closing down next month (Dec2021), which is the reason we came. I'm so glad I got to experience this landmark diner before it becomes a part of Hawaii's good 'Ole days memories. I've heard the two winners here are the chicken katsu and the beef stew. I got a mixed plate with those two entrees and let me tell you, the rumors are true! It was DELICIOUS! Excellent example of a good plate lunch. I checked Urban Dictionary for good plate lunch and this place showed up. Lol. We called in our order and our 7 plates (me and my 6 coworkers) were ready when we got there. Everyone really enjoyed there food. Mahalo Meg's. This isn't goodbye, it's just until we meet again.

Just heard on the news that Meg's Drive-In is closing after Decades of service to the community. I rushed down this afternoon to get my favorite beef Curry and chicken katsu mix plate. I haven't been there in a while so I found out the new thing is that there's an upcharge for use of credit card not debit card also 50 Cent more if you want french fries. The plate lunch was exactly how I remembered it. Krunchy chicken katsu over a small bit of cabbage, mac salad or in my case some toss greens and beef Curry, Siri and not spicy. The french fries were a little thinner than I remember but nevertheless delicious when soaked in with the little of the curry sauce. Sad to hear that another one of Hawaii's cherished take out plate lunch places is closing. Mahalo and Aloha Meg's Drive In!

Thank you for all those years. One of my dads favorite plate lunch joint. Always good flavor and good quality foods that us locals always love. From the burgers to wings to plate lunches. You'll surely be missed. We need to always support small local businesses, cause without them we won't have that local comfort home cooked feel foods we all love. Pretty soon we only going see big chain restaurants and fast foods sadly Will be by a few more times before the Dec 17th closing!
