This is a popular local restaurant that has been loved by locals for a long time. 🌈I heard about this restaurant from a local friend in Hawaii more than 10 years ago and it has become a familiar shop ♥ It's loved by locals, so I wouldn't recommend it to Japanese people traveling abroad to America for the first time. Recommended for repeat travelers to Hawaii and those who have studied abroad in the United States. Whenever I come to Waikiki, I always go there to eat and feel Hawaii. In the past, I used to think, ``Wow, there are so many lines! ? There were huge lines at local stores, but during the coronavirus pandemic, we started pre-ordering online, divided the line into three parts, and took customer service measures at the store, which significantly reduced the waiting time. As of 2025, the number of tourists is increasing, but the number of competing stores has also increased, so it is good that local usage is dispersed. Please come and experience Hawaii's long-established drive-in.

Added in January 2025 This time I received a plate of BBQ pork and BBQ beef. It has a sweet seasoning and lacks the ginger in the ginger grill. It's easy to eat even for Japanese people, so it's recommended.
Posted in 2024 This is a restaurant frequented by Waikiki locals. They are also very affordable, ranging from $5 to $13. The eat-in space is outside, and it's small, but many people come by car and either eat in their car or take it home, so I was able to sit and eat. We waited in line for about 10 minutes to order around 13:30 on a weekday Monday. The overall amount is voluminous. Loco Moco comes in a small size, so I ordered that. It's a thin, large hamburger steak with a fried egg, and the amount of rice and gravy is quite large. I had some leftover rice, but it was delicious. The plates seem to be popular, but locals were also ordering burgers. A lot of Rainbow Drive-in merchandise was also on sale.
Vegetarian options: There is no notation.
Dietary restrictions: There is no notation.
Parking: Since it's a drive-in, there are plenty of parking lots around.
Kid-friendliness: There was no children's menu, but there were some with children.
Wheelchair accessibility: There seems to be a slight difference in level, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Honestly we came because it’s known to be a staple for Hawaii. The food to me was very average and i think it claims to be so that was fine. Idk the loco moco brown sauce to me just tastes like the sauce on-top of Salisbury steak and i didn’t really enjoy but that’s just me. The other breakfast plate was standard eggs and rice and sausage. But the French toast i would recommend! That was great. Mac salad was bland in my opinion. I think if you have limited time in hawaii then rainbow drive in is a skip. But if you do come there is lots of outdoor seating & parking

1st timer, Highly recommended by locals and a good friend of ours ..did not dissapoint!! Staff at walk up window recommended the breakfast special to my wifey and I had the LocoMoko !! So so good especially the gravy!! 🙂🤙🏼✨️

This place was not good. Got the BBQ pork sandwich and tots. Neither came out hot. The food had no flavor and was very bland. Not sure what the hype could be about. The staff seemed to not like tourists. No one working was friendly. I asked for ketchup and the guy working threw the packets on the counter aggressively. I was very disappointed and could not recommend this place at all.

Worst food I've ever eaten! A complete waste of my money. The fries were cold and soggy. My sandwich was drenched in mayonnaise and was worse then a mc Donald's burger. Had to spit out the macaroni salad it was so bad. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

I visited for breakfast. My son ordered loco moco, and I ordered a hamburger and french fries with special gravy. The loco moco went well with the special gravy and hamburger, and my son praised it highly. The hamburger was small and just the right size for Japanese people. The french fries with the special gravy were delicious.

As a local, I was really disappointed with my experience here. I politely asked to use the restroom and was directed to another window to get the key. When I asked at the second window, the employee rudely slammed the key on the counter.
This was especially frustrating given the lack of publicly available restrooms in the area. Even after offering to buy something after using the restroom, I was met with a complete lack of aloha. For such a famous local plate lunch spot, this kind of treatment is disappointing—these places should reflect the welcoming spirit of our community, instead it's a reflection of poor customer service, which signals a larger problem of lack of employee appreciation by management.
I hope they consider improving their customer service, especially since small gestures of kindness can make a big difference for both locals and tourists.
