Loved the ube soba noodles. I love to see cool fusions like that on a menu - after all you can get soba noodles anywhere in Japan and elsewhere, but not ube noodles. Dipping sauce was also excellent, and surprisingly so was the kimchi.STIX is a pretty crowded basement eatery full of various asian food stalls; most of the places had a wait, including this one, but it wasn't terrible. There's also a bar directly across from it to order drinks from while you wait.

We really enjoyed the soba. It was quite authentic. The tempura was cooked to perfection. All in all for the money you get good value. I would recommend this to others.

Yummy soba! They got a variety of cold and hot sodas with variety of sides and other dishes. In general haven't found STIX to be too crowded whenever I come. Their natto bowl was pretty good and the rest of their portions are quite fair too.I'd come back here for sure.

This was the first time trying soba noodles and enjoyed. Nothing to compare to. Just take noodles.. dip in the soup, eat. Repeat. Ordered the hot curry. Japanese curry with noodles and soup, can't go wrong here.

I ordered a combo.Kake soba (warm) is disappointing. The soup stock was not strong and the soup tasted like hot water.

The food is delicious, but the service from the staff is terrible. I can't believe it even though I'm a Japanese clerk. When I was at the old store on King St before moving to Stix, I was also confused by the way the Japanese female clerk (different from the one I worked with this time) treated me.I will never go to this store again.PS: Will I ever go there again? I decided to go there a couple of times for dinner with friends after posting the above review. Our servers were a local clerk, Nicholas, and a different Japanese woman than the one we had last time. They both provided very efficient service, and my previous impression of this restaurant completely changed. .Owner? Manager? The person who seemed to be there was also very friendly. I would like to correct the star rating of this store that I previously posted.

Yummy flavors and fun textures! The beef was very scrumptious, as was their beef stew ? Filling and satiating.

So happy they opened up close to me. I used to dine with them at their original location in Mccully. This place is small but fills up! Located in the Stix asian food hall. The quality just SLAPS. You know it's fresh and homemade noodles. You eat it and feel so alive and healthy. You can do the cold or hot noodles. A lot of the broth is HOT especially the amazing duck and you get cold noodles. I was hoping the duck broth would be cold actually.. but still was Ono. The servers are mostly japanese and so polite and attentive. All the food is delish.

FOOD: 3SERVICE: 1AMBIANCE: 3VALUE: 2If you don't speak Japanese, do not come here. They definitely discriminate against you. There were 3 tables of people who came after us, ordered the same dishes and they all got their food before us! In one case a table of 6 came in after us and they got all their food 20 minutes before us. The final straw was this single Japanese guy came in 20 minutes after we sat down, and got his food the same time we got our food! We were the only non-Japanese speaking customers in the whole restaurant.

I have been hearing so many good things about Shingen and am so glad I finally got around to trying this place! I got their special dinner combo ($20.80) and opted for the hot ube soba with tempura don. I enjoyed the ube soba but expected the texture to have slight more chewy. I want to try the cold soba next time so I can compare textures. Tempura don was tasty and had a good variety of tempura.Among noodles, soba is a very healthy choice. Soba is mostly made with buckwheat flour, which is not only gluten-free, but packed with healthy proteins, vitamins, and minerals. It's lower in carbohydrates and calories as well. I love all noodles but I really want to incorporate more soba into my diet!

Conveniently (for me at least) set right next to the central bar, Shingen is a great place for a quick take out to eat bar side and watch the Sunday NFL games. Service is quick and very friendly. The server gave her suggestions with enthusiasm and delivered it to the bar while we were cheering for the Eagles. She helped us spread out our order and suggested which sauces she preferred, and cheered alongside us for the next two plays before returning to Shingen. The food is excellent. A plus for us - since the closing of Yamagen, we havent found a low key soba eatery that appealed to us at this level till now.

One of the best noodle places we tried was at Shingen for their ube udon. The noodles were perfectly chewy and so delicious paired with a cold dipping sauce. There are three noodles to choose from: soba noodles, moringa soba noodles, ube udon noodles. I decided on the ube noodles with cold dipping sauce and mini tempura bowl combo. It was perfect for me. Noodles were perfectly cooked. The cold noodles were perfect for a hot day. My husband got the soba noodles with duck and negi dipping broth. There were pieces of duck in the soup. And it was very flavorful Both dishes were delicious. They even give you dashi at the end to pour into the dipping sauce to make yourself soup.
