This is a really nice place. Well-made, well-thought out dishes with a Japanese influence. They have tonkatsu, kalbi, spaghetti (sometimes), butter chicken. We will definitely return because the food tastes good, it is good quality, the chef seems dedicated and consistent, the service is friendly, and in an age when some restaurants are jacking up their prices, they've kept their prices reasonable. The only negatives are that generally there are only tables for 2 at 808 Sheridan, and because everything is carefully made to order, if one or two parties are in front of you, it could take a little while, maybe 15-20 minutes. Last, a couple of people have commented on the creative liberties taken with their take on kalbi. They are generally fusiony here, and while the kalbi plate was very good and I'd get it again, it is fair to say, it is distinct from most kalbis, but very good and tender, almost more like a roast. I also love that the bentos come with a delicious little salad, some pickled vegetables, and a well made curry potato salad.

Really creates an amazing flavor profile! You can tell the chef cares deeply about his work and the taste of what he makes. Superb.

I haven't actually come to this restaurant but I've eaten their food twice now. I've had the tonkatsu and chicken nanban. The tonkatsu was kind of dry but not greasy. The curry potato salad was really good. The chicken nanban was so tasty and not greasy. I didn't think that tartar would go good with fried chicken but it does.

The chef makes amazing bento! I tried the Hire Katsu Bento (Pork Tenderloin Katsu) from the August Monthly Special Menu. The bento came with rice, salad, and side dishes. Each component of the dish went well together and had great flavor. The katsu was juicy and crispy, and the portions were filling and certainly worth the price!Compliments to the chef and his wife who take time to talk to their customers and make them feel at home. The restaurant is located on the second floor and has nice two person balcony seating. If you’re looking for authentic bento in Honolulu, Sho’s Kitchen is the place to go!

It's reasonable priced lunch place located in 808 Sheridan Center. There're some seatings around and the chef prepares it after order. My favorite part of the bento was the rice. I could not stop eating it! Chicken nanban was good. I'll try tofu salad next time.

Decided to venture out into the city during our 5 hour layover (kids in tow) for lunch. This place hit the spot for lunch. The guy at the counter was super helpful. I personally really liked their pan friend king salmon.

Came here for lunch and got the Kalbi bento. Not a bad price for $15.50 as prices these days have gone way up. It came with rice, a green salad, tsukemono and curried potato salad. The salad had a nice mild dressing, not over dressed, the potato salad was more elevated than your normal potato salad. I just wish the kalbi was on the bone and seared harder.I can appreciate that this was supposed to be a more elevated bento, so in gourmet cooking terms the meat was cooked to a medium and with more technique. But with kalbi, a hard sear and caramelized glaze is what its all about. I just didn't get that. So I can appreciate what they were going for but it was not what I expect from Kalbi.I can see the potential and skill it took to make this dish. I'd get the pan fried king salmon with garlic butter cream sauce next time or the shrimp tempura over egg donburi. We ate outside on one of the tables on along the railing. Service was very friendly as we left we couldn't find a trash can so we took our containers to toss elsewhere. The chef came running down the stairs to get our trash! Such dedication and attention to detail.Located in the 808 Sheridan Building on the 2nd Floor, we found parking on the street a few blocks away.

Outstanding bento. Great quality food and terrific flavors. Way above average. The owner / chef is extremely nice and his background as a top tier chef really shows in the quality and creativity of the food. Will definitely be back!

This review is based on Sho's kitchen chef's table. A friend of mine was really interested in trying the chef's table, which is a special dinner served on Friday and Saturday nights only. This month for October it was Japanese, last month it was Italian. Seating is very limited. We made reservations for four people and we were excited to try out this restaurant. As mentioned above, this months chef's table was Japanese, and was all sushi. The sushi was very fresh, elegantly placed, and clearly had a lot of thought into the planning of this dinner, but I think it would've been nice if some of the courses weren't all sushi, but a different style of Japanese cuisine. The sushi was very good, but it didn't stand out from other restaurants that also serve good sushi. Dessert was cheesecake. The chef's table dinner is $80, with tax and tip of 20% ended up being $100.25.Sho's kitchen is BYOB, but they do serve tapwater on request. Definitely a great place for those of you who like to have wine or beer with your meals. Sho's kitchen is mostly known for their lunches in which they have a nice selection of rotating Bentos. Definitely would like to be back to try those. Parking: Valet parking is available in the building, but at times the wait can be quite long as they only have one person working the valet. I parked across the street at the Walmart parking lot.

If you're looking for some quality bentos then this is the place. Price-wise, these are a bit more than your typical bento, but that's also because they are better quality to match. I loved that the bentos included a variety of sides, the potato salad stood out for me. There isn't too much seating here, but some are available. This place is located on the second floor.

Really great Katsu! Conveniently located in 808 Sheridan. They share the space with our YEE friends, Double Three. Fast and friendly service combined with perfectly executed food. We will be back! Sho's Kitchen is upstairs on the second floor. Valet parking is free for 1 hour

Landed on a 5 instead of a 4 for several reasons. This is for lunch. the food genuinely tastes good. The salad had nice crisp lettuce and onions. Not wilted or brown. With a light dressing. The Japanese pickles and the curry potato salad round out the meal with salty and spicy and starchy flavors. I got the gapao which was quite flavorful and nice. I had to add a little hot sauce to mine which isn't surprising since the Japanese palate tends to be more milder than my Korean one. The hub got the nanban chicken which was really flavorful and yummy. You can see the care that goes into the food and presentation. Props for getting the lined paper takeout boxes so the liquid doesn't make the box become soggy and floppy on the drive home. The quantity and price for the quality is great. $12 bentos in this economy is really generous especially for the amount of food. We were stuffed and saved the ball of rice from his bento for another day. I called a little after they opened at 10:35 but got the voicemail. He called me back! Surprised and appreciated that since I was gonna give them give and call back again but I didn't have to after all! The only tough thing about this development is the parking. There are only a few spots to park for pickup and the parking attendant was nice enough to create a space since it was full. Overall this is going in the takeout bento rotation for sure - to join Akira, rinka bento, dell's.
