Our chef Ka Ki had all the tricks and humor I expect from Tanaka of Tokyo West. His cooking skills are top notched and very entertaining. He is also very respectful but playful. All the food was fresh and of the highest caliber. Our server Jordan was also of the highest caliber in service.

The chef made inappropriate comments during my meal, including unsolicited jokes and personal remarks that felt condescending and invasive. As a queer woman, I expect to be treated with basic respect in a public space. Instead, I felt singled out and mocked under the guise of “humor.” This is not acceptable — not culturally, not professionally, not ethically. Dining out should be enjoyable and safe. This experience was neither. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for respectful service.

Tanaka Tokyo in Ala Moana is a great restaurant. Good service and our chef was very entertaining. We enjoyed the food and the performance. This restaurant is our go to place to take family and friends visiting Hawai'i.

We've been dining at Tanaka of Tokyo for decades. The food is consistently great. This time we went for Father's Day. Our server Alissa was calm and very attentive. Our Chef John was entertaining, engaging and not overly energetically. Our food was cooked perfectly, and he remembered and catered to the allergies and special requests of our group. We're looking forward to going again.

Allura was very personable, happy to have her as a waitress. Cj is a mater at his craft. Bocha made sure we were sat in a timely hammer. Thank you! What an honor. Amazing service all around. Steak and lobster is the best!!

My wife and I both ordered the premium set shogun meal with the Wagyu beef option. It was excellent! The wagyu beef, scallops and lobster were all delicious! Also, our chef Joe was great. Besides his amazing presentation cooking the food he was very entertaining with his jokes and commentary.
