The Original Roy's in Hawaii Kai

If I could give more stars, I would! The food, service, and ambience is always top tier at Roy's!

Roy Yamaguichi is my favorite chef ever. It is always a treat to eat at his restaurants. We returned to the original in Hawaii Kai and had another fabulous meal. Service was attentive and food delicious as always. Great view of the sunset over the Pacific. A unique and wonderful dining experience.

Caesar salad is not a caesar salad, more like a tossed green salad, should not call it a caesar salad. The Frying Dragon Roll was excellent! Misoyaki Butterfish amazing! Restaurant needs an update, looks tired. Friendly staff, loved the Chefs greeting customers upstairs.

What an amazing experience. The views were spectacular. The service and food were the best I've encountered during my stays on Oahu. Can't wait to go back!

While we were a few minutes late arriving for our 630 reservation, our table was in the middle of the room near the bar and it was pretty noisy. Our waiter was doubling as the bartender so his full attention was questionable. He also did not introduce himself, I had to ask his name...Scotty. He was quite personable but the wait between touches were long. Our appetizer sushi was really good and tasty. Then we got our salad and brussell sprouts. Finally someone came to check whether they should start our entrees. It is now almost 830! By the time we got our entrees, over half the restaurant had left. We didn't leave until almost 930...3hour dinner? WTH? It's been a long time since I've come to Roy's Hawaii Kai and it'll be a long time till I return. Timing of food was super off and while all dishes were delish, the wait time is not worth it.

The food and service were just okay. The quality of the food for the price was disappointing. I tried their  $77 tasting menu, which was actually pretty good but proportion size was tiny! My husband had the $73 ribeye steak. It definitely leaned on the tough side. For $77 that steak should've melted in his mouth. The wait staff was attentive to a fault. Without exaggeration every 2 to 3 minutes somebody was coming to our table to the point where it became an annoyance. It's not that they were being too attentive it's that they would be walking by and talking to us as they breezed by from our backside. What would've been appreciated is if the staff would slow down, approach us from the front side of our table, look us in the eye, and speak slowly. Our last visit to this Roy‘s location was about 10 years ago and our experience was vastly different. We were so excited to have the opportunity to return so we were truly disappointed with this last visit 

Scotty was the highlight of the night. Great bartender, waiter, and all around good dude. He made the night memorable and we had a great time. Food was excellent, and the drinks were spot on.

Roys Hawaii Kai is one of our go to places to celebrate special occasions. Last night we celebrated my birthday during Happy Hour and had a good time. You can't beat Happy Hour prices! We enjoyed most of the food and drinks. The chicken wings were really good, but the sliders were a little dry and the tempura spicy ahi maki sushi was a little salty. We also had the brussel sprouts, bacon truffle fries, and ordered the crab cake off the regular menu. These were all solid. The Hawaiian Martini and House Margarita were also on Happy Hour special and were very good. What makes Roys special, though, is the service and staff. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating and the service is top notch! We really enjoyed our evening and will be back very soon! Mahalo!

There was too much sauce on our food, even the Caesar salad had too much dressing. The mushroom ravioli was good, but was swimming in red sauce. My misoyaki butterfish had a green sauce that really detracted from the flavor of the fish. It was cooked perfectly, and the black rice was delicious. My husband's whole fish was delicious, but commented on the amount of sauce.

Everything was excellent. I love Roys because they are very consistent. It does not matter which one you visit it will always be as excellent as the last. The service is top notch, you can count on being very well taken care of.

Great staff and Manager. Makani is awesome! So polite, attentive, always wants to make sure customers are being serviced. The whole crew is just so on top of it!!!

It was my husband's birthday. They accommodated all my requests, a beautiful window ocean view, exquisite service, incredible food. We could not have been more pleased. They made our dining experience an unforgettable memory. We will definitely be returning. It is now our favorite place to relax, eat and enjoy a tranquil evening in paradise.

Did not disappoint.
