This place is a gem. Make sure you come early because this place is always full. And for good reason. The Tonkatsu was out of this world, I loved the entire meal. They have definitely perfected their craft. The service was top notch and efficient. I recommend everyone to come here.

There are 2 kinds of pork: the regular one, which is a more round shape, and the "aged" one which is larger and slightly more expensive. We all thought the regular one was just as good. The aged one is thicker (though tender considering how thick it was).Good is great, and the katsu is all very crispy/crunchy. Making the sauce is fun.Wait time/reservation - because they do have so many reservations, it seems like the standby wait time is quite long. We came on a Wednesday in March of 2024 with a reservation. When we left, there was no one waiting outside at all. I wonder if anyone showed up if they would still be quoted a long wait time. I guess that's the blessing/curse of a reservation system.Overall, a great experience

Amazing! Best katsu I’ve ever had . Not sure if I would brave the long wait times, in person - but we made a reservation (4 months) in advance - and were seated right away. We ordered the pork loin katsu and shrimp + oyster katsu - which were all very delicious. The service was great! And I was ready to make our next reservation mid-meal (which was 7 months out due to the busy summer months). If you’re able to make the reservations well in advance, it’s definitely worth it!

For my first time here everything was excellent. Food was very tasty and hot. Great place to go if you can get a reservation.

Wow… the katsu was chefs kiss ? so good! Service was great too. They give you a warm hand towel to wipe your hands prior to eating. You can also ask for refills on the salad. The experience was such an amazing one. 100% recommend. We didn’t have a reservation but we came an hour early to put our name down and waited a total of 1.5 hours prior to being seated and having our orders taken.

We arrived too late for their lunch time hours so we had to order off their to go menu, it the same price as their eat in menu except you don’t get all you can eat cabbage and pickles. The pork we had was over cooked and very greasy. The breading was dark brown looking like it was on the verge of burning. The meat inside was tough to chew. The grease was probably too hot.The restaurant smells of grease and there is not much seating inside. I will not eat here again.

The food is fantastic!!! Great quality and so delicious. I called them in February to make a reservation for April and I was told that their next reservation is in September. They do allow walk ins. You can sign in when you arrive and wait outside.

It's one of my favorite restaurants in Honolulu. The tonkotsu here is perfect. Amazing taste and fried perfectly. Grinding your own sesame was neat, and it was combined with some pretty amazing tokotsu sauce.

Best Tonkatsu on the Island right here at Tonkatsu Tamafuji and good luck trying to get into this place because it's only taking Reservations 7 months out . The Tonkatsu here is simply the Best from the Pork to the Shrimp to the Oysters it's always excellent and the taste will knock your socks off. You definitely gotta love the vibe here at Tonkatsu Tamafuji. Love the atmosphere here and the food never disappoints . When you order their Set Meals it comes with Complimentary Tsukemono and choice of Miso Soup I love the Red Miso Soup with Clams but the draw for me is the Japanese Rice. If you haven't had Japanese Rice you don't know what you're missing . They have three types of Rice to choose from and for me it's simple . Ask them to put all three types of Rice together in One Bowl and Thank me later . And here's the best part, you can always ask for more!!! YES!!!!! And with your Tonkatsu Set it comes with Shredded Cabbage which is served with two types of Dressihgs. This is perfect compliment to counteract the oiliness of the Tonkatsu and once again you can always ask for more. And you gotta love tge Fresh Sesame Seeds that you grind yourself then you add your Tonkatsu Sauce to it give your Tonkatsu that Nutty Flavor which makes each and every bite a moment to remember . They even have Hot Mustard on the Side of the Plate to give your Tonkatsu the perfect balance and the Tartar Sauce for the Oyster and Shrimp Fry go hand in hand harmoniously All I can say about Tonkatsu Tamafuji is that they are definitely at the top of the Tonkatsu Gane here in Hawaii and the only place that would give them rubs would be Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin in Waikiki. But for a local like parking sucks in Waikiki and the prices there are a little more than what you would pay for At Tonkotsu Tamafuji. Here's a pro tip though. If you don't want to wait months to get a reservation here at Tonkatsu Tamafuji, try go to their Restaurant an hour and a half earlier if you have free time and get on their waitlist . If you're lucky you may he able to squeeze in and you won't regret it I promise you. We were eating there this afternoon and as soon as we sat we heard that there was a Three Hour wait and this was at 4:30pm. That's how hard it is to get a seat here . I got the Biggest Tonkatsu they got which was a 16 Ounce Pork Tonkatsu . That buggah was thick but it so juicy and delicious . It was a little soggy on the bottom but what would you expect from Thick Piece of Pork. It was phenomenal . I also added a Piece of Shrimp Fry to make it a Surf n Turf My wife has the Oyster Fry with Pork Set and it was just as good . Another pro tip, make sure you get a Tonkatsu Sando to go for dessert This Pork Cutlet Sandwich is Orgasmic and Is the perfect ending to an absolutely terrific meal . There is nothing else I can say about Tonkatsu Tamafuji because I'm literally at a loss for words after writing this review. Happy Eating Everyone -- at Tonkatsu Tamafuji.

The waiter, Jin, was a total jerk. We showed up at 3:30, put our name down in the waitlist and he basically shooed us away, saying to come back at 6:00. So we come back at 5:00, and guess what? Our name's already crossed off the list! Talk about entitled! And he couldn't even bother explaining the rules properly the first time around. What a joke.

Worst experience one could possibly imagine. The restaurant only has very limited seating for walk-in and doesn’t call or text to notify you when a table is ready. We got to the restaurant at 3:30 and were told by a waiter named Jin to come back at 6 for the second round of seating. We walked around in the area and came back at 4:40 but realized that they gave our table away to walk-in groups that came later than us.The walk-in system is a joke, and the waiter is not helpful at all. The most depressing experience in Hawaii. Idk why these people are allowed in the service industry.
